I do, but since my phone doesn't support NFC I'm losing quite a bit even on L5. I don't want to upgrade my phone just because of a rewards program, but it should technically pay for itself after a couple of months.

have you tried using the engen app, and linking the virtual card to that, and paying for fuel with the engen app,
that only needs a camera

not sure if it will technically count? especially if you dont have NFC.

I've definitely considered this option at that price point and got close to grabbing one of the R1 900 models until I realised I'm not willing to give up my current watch and that means I'll have to start wearing two. I know, I can't be helped.

Oh, interesting. I have not - thanks! Worth trying out and seeing what happens.

dont know if the Virtual card is smart enough to know its been used in the engen one app, and NOT in a NFC device,
but I reckon its simply seeing transactions on the Virtual card and does not care its from an app,

never tried it myself, so hopefully you can tell us if it does indeed work.

You wouldn’t be giving up your current watch unless you selling it to finance the new one.

I mean, you have more than one pair of pants, right?

I used to use E-Bucks. It's got lots of hoops to jump through to get to the max level.

Since I closed all my FirstRand accounts, I don't use FNB any longer so also no E-Bucks.

Found it now, they have moved it.

They need to hire a UX designer because its getting worse and worse to use the app
Definitely. I mean the app ticks the functional boxes by the experience is terrible. Feels like it was done by telling people to just chuck stuff in the box.

I mean the money and budget tools have some real great practical potential. But from a usability perspective it is absolute junk.

Most people would wear them at different times but still retain possession of the other pair?
Correct.

But if you read the guys post, he is trying to solve the problem of tap to pay. No tap to pay on his phone means he needs another device. No point in leaving his tap to pay device at home.

eBucks became a social engineering tool, in the bennniggning, it was used to foster good banking habits, but then they started pulling the levers in their favour by forcing insurance products, vehicle financing, being executor of your will, debt products, investment products... I switched my transactional banking to a different private bank this year, although no more hoops to jump through is incredibly freeing, there is some value lost. Freedom is worth it.

Just get a RFID/NFC implant. I am pretty sure if you get the chip your local vet can inject it for you like the microchips they do for cats and dogz. No mess, no fuss, no surgery. No worry about forgetting your phone/wallet/watch. The advantage of doing a star wars force like "The bill is paid." handwaving magic when presented a bill at the restaurant. Win-win-win. And you can keep your current watch.

Correct.

I'm sure he can survive with his normal watch and a wallet with a tap to pay card on occasion.

My point is that he's not giving up his existing watch if he doesn't wear it, it's still his, and it still retains whatever [sentimental] value it has even if it's not on his wrist.

One could also make the argument that the safest place for something of value isn't on his person, especially in SA.

Yes, but disappointed, FNB have been chipping away at the value of ebucks aggressively the last couple years. The introduction of the annual cap last year and then they did not increase it by inflation this year is frustrating, surely there is a better way - It feels bad man.
The cap is only applicable to the 40% discounts - and those, for the most part, doesn't exist anymore.
(except for in their advertising material)
