As a last resort, but saying this; Fedex/ Aramex is even worse for international parcels. Could be customs related. 30 days plus after arriving in country. Extra fines for misrepresentation by shipper payable by recipient.

I use them for the smaller items from Aliexpress and gearbest, bigger items I rather use the courier option via gearbest, I chose shipping insurance as well just to be safe.

Only when forced.
Recently received 2 orders from eBay
ordered 3 July '19, landed in RSA on 8 July '19 ( Free China Post even )
arrived at my postbox ONLY on 16 September '19

I'd rather pull my own teeth than using the post office. My brother and his wife lives in the US. For Christmas they send packages all over the world including to countries like Vietnam, Ukraine, Russia, Japan and to his family here in South Africa.

All the countries received their packages MONTHS before our package arrived.

I have ordered items from Amazon, but because they were a third party selling on Amazon they only had the post office as a shipping option. Package never arrived -- and I doubt it was stolen, I am not sure the market for Actuarial Insurance Product design textbooks are that big. The R2500 book was probably used to smoke pot, or something.

My Expanse MCRN hoodie also never arrived. Probably keeping somebody warm somewhere :-(

I dont use the post office because of their pathetic customer service. If they are not on strike they have the worst attitude towards customers.
I rather pay PostNet and know your package will be delivered.

Ordered 4 packages from China to be delivered by the post office. All 4 arrived in the country and once in the hands of SAPO they suddenly became undeliverable.

I use them a lot for parcels from China. As long as you use tracking numbers, I've found the Post Office to be very reliable. The waiting period has also vastly improved in the last few months. My last number of packages have all arrived within a month to six weeks' time, which I think is quite reasonable. Also remember, a lost package is not necessarily the Post Office's fault, sometimes it gets lost before reaching SA. It helps to track your package regularly with the help of a tracking site like 17track dot net. If it gets lost, you'll know where, as it gets scanned at every point along it's journey.

i've also noticed the turn around time has improved recently.

Only use it if there isn't another option. For example when I am ordering from Joom or Wish. I receive about 40% of all the orders I've ever placed. Most of my items that I've ordered come from Paypal monies I received from doing online surveys so a max of about $10 on a single item. If i order something more expensive I choose a better delivery option, normally through FedEx or Aramex.

I don't send cards from SA because they never arrive at their destination!

Received an ATM card from overseas but had to pay a customs & handling fee to receive it!

Insured a parcel for R1000 and it went missing - never got paid out after years of trying.

For vehicle license renewals and international packages. So far we've had a good experience.

Do you use the SA Post Office for local or international package delivery? If so, what is your experience?
I do use the Post Office for domestic and international parcels but I have stopped, ever since my international parcel was shipped from Cape Town to Polokwane since last year October and it was supposed to be shipped from polokwane to lebowakgomo, when I track the parcel even today it was last scanned at the Polokwane hub...so sometime in June/July I sent an email to the post office and they only responded a month later by saying I must go check the parcel to where it is supposed to be shipped. What's frustrates me is that when I track the parcel it shows its still in polokwane and I don't want to go to the post office for them to tell me that the parcel has not arrived...

No, not for the purposes in the survey. Occasionally have to collect a registered item. The recent horrific fatal attack was at our closest PO, less than 1km away so I'd be even less likely to want to go there. Last time I went past it was still closed.
