unfortunately loot crate insisted on shipping via post office, cancelled the subscription. ordered 3 items, only one arrived (3 months late, after lootcrate sent a replacement).

I used to, yes, but not anymore.
I use kickstarter a lot and order other products from international retailers and one of my packages was just "lost".
According to 17track it was stuck at Johannesburg International for about 6months, at this stage i have no idea where it is.
I went to my local Post Office and they wasnt able to help, they had no idea where it was.
I tried to phone the numbers on the site and mailed the emails on the site, but nobody knows where it is.

I recently joined Global Shopper and have been using this for any package, it costs more, but i know i get it within 2 weeks.

Yes but this year has been the worst, none of my items I bought internationally were delivered, now I'm forced to request the seller to use DHL in order to get items bought internationally which costs 20$ and that's around R300

I avoid SAPO as much as possible and don't use them. However, on rare occasion, I am forced to use them due to some shopping sites not allowing for alternative delivery options. In those cases, it's basically like playing Russian roulette: Either the package goes missing, or I get it, but far more often the package will get lost or stolen without so much as a peep from SAPO.

As many above - only when I have no other option. By which I mean I would simply rather not post or import things if they use the post office. 'Proof of the pudding': Amazon won't send to SA via post office anymore either

Definitely not for small consumer goods. items like watches are an absolute no-no - they stole one form me 10+ years back, I reported it, but never got feedback despite multiple follow ups.

Even when not stolen, delivery times are plain stupid, their tracking system is essentially always down and you struggle to get through to anyone when calling the clearing centre at the airport. The whole changing tracking numbers on entry to SA thing is an F' up too

Yes, I use the Post Office for the delivery of items from international sources. My items have always arrived and not once have I had items stolen. Very good service from Cambridge Post Office in East London

Yes, we send boxes weighing about 17kg internationally via surface mail through the PO. Not sure I have any other option. Takes a while to get to its destination but haven't had a problem yet. The contents are multiple copies of the same book so not sure anyone would want to steal that...
When I did use the PO - a few years ago - that was the only item which never, ever got stolen. Books.

As a business, we still deliver around 1 million items a month through the Post Office. Before the 2014 strike, we were processing over 4 million items per month. Leaving delivery and theft out of the discussion, it is still the most economical way to move an item around the country and when operating properly, it would give one the biggest delivery footprint. Incompetence, corruption, to name but a few reasons for its failure.

Lots of Wish items Hever arrived but that's not due to the Post Office. Customs stops them after you have received 3 per year apparently.
Local Post Office-Pinetown has some hard working ladies, so I can't complain about my SAPO.

Yeah seems that way :)
When ordering from overseas I would rather pay extra (Aramex) and ensure my stuff get's to me than use the PO. Amazon's switch to courier (for SA anyway) is the wisest move they ever made.

For small orders from overseas. Thus far I have only lost one parcel and I got a refund from wish.

Only when forced to.And then they charge you to receive 'postage paid' items

Do people still collect postage stamps ????
I was put off when the fake Israel stamps circulated. and dumped the lot.

Extremely seldom. Perhaps once every 2-3 years if I have to post something small (if it ever arrives) or if I collect mail.

The LAST time I used them, the item disappeared and had to claim for non delivery of the item. In each of the previous times, they sent the item to a post office far from home.
I now pay extra for courier delivery. Far more reliable.

No, too many items from eBay etc have just never arrived after entering SA...
This has been my experience as well and has occurred repeatedly. It is especially painful when they send it to a post office that is not really anywhere near where you live.
