Documentaries

I watched quite an insightful documentary about opiates a few days. It's called Raw Opium and was released in 2010. Worth a watch as it shows the depth of state collusion and corruption in the War on Drugs concerning the poppy trade. CIA planes involved in transporting heroin and opium between Cambodia and Vietnam. Also takes a look at the cultural history of use of the poppy plant and the terrible consequences of heroin addiction and how an injecting facility in Toronto Canada is leading the way in new approaches to dealing with heroin addiction. Fascinating watch although it made me squirm at times. I have such a phobia of hypodermic needles!

Two of my favourite: (Sorry if mentioned before)
BBC: Seven ages of rock
-Goes back to the history of rock and were each genre began. Lots of interview with A list band members from BBC archives and a few new ones. The sound track is amazing truly epic. Well structured.
BBC: Space Race
-The story of the space race as told from both sides. Drama rein acted (mhe), but still done very nicely. Good story, Tried for a on independent view of the situation.

How do you guys manage to watch the BBC documentaries? I've managed to download some of the vids on documentary heaven via youtube downloader / tubemate. I prefer to watch it on my tv rather on my laptop. The torrent sites don't really yield a great number of documentaries and the ones on BBC looks great, but I keep getting a message that it isn't available in my country.

First, get Unotelly for $5 a month and then there are many ways to watch on your tv depending on what hardware you have.

For example, you can stream via a dedicated box such as Apple TV, Roku, Now TV, or load an app onto your Smart TV or Playstation/Xbox etc etc. Then you can watch all the free UK catch ups (itv, Ch4, Ch5).

The key though is to bypass the region restrictions of the BBC using someone like Unotelly.

Just finished watching Merchants of Doubt
Brilliant! Towards the end Dr.James Hansen mentions that if we rise the earth temp. with a few degrees at would mean sea levels rising with 10s of meters and this would wipe out coastal cities across the globe. They then ran through all the city name and seeing CAPE TOWN in there just gave me the chills.

Here you go mate. I might be biased cause I'm into 3D animation/rendering/etc - but it should be interesting for other people as well.

It's not about global warming, it's about how important issues are framed to the public at large and associated issues.

It's very much worth watching.
