Does BlackBerry have a future?

Yes. As it is stated in this article, bb support won't suddenly drop to zero. They still have a fighting chance.

He's right, consumers don't care, but this also counts towards the Z10.

It doesnt stand out from the crowd, and you might be fooled into thinking its an S2.

But mostly it comes down to pricing, once people see dem prices, they will rather pickup an iPhone.

Rather simple really.

I don't get it.

What is the big deal about 'always on' email?

All smartphones can do push email today, so why is the BlackBerry still singled out in this regard?

The only resistance to moving over to other platforms that I encounter today is the fact that some people just cannot get used to a touch keyboard and still prefer physical keys.

This has also became exctinct with the Z10, so they won't have a choice for much longer.

but outside the US, no one really cares about Netflix.

I care :p

though wont use my phone for netflix :p

The Q10 is coming out soon though.

They'll be around for many years to come, but will never be what they once were. They clearly lack the innovative minds behind their products they once had. They pioneered an industry, but then stopped.

Lack of innovation has caught up with em. sadly like nokia they stagnated and are now in some smelly stuff......

Very true. They will have one of the few phones with an actual keyboard. Lets see how sales go....

After the various lies and lack of transparency when BIS failed, corporates are moving away from BB.

After the demise of BIS as a cheap Internet connection, the low end market is moving away from them.

Having an allegedly better device will not cut it as the other devices, if behind, will play catchup in the next release.

Can BB continue to run the BIS/BES network as numbers dwindle? Probably not.

With Facebook now swallowing some of Android up and creating a strong Android+Facebook bond I cannot see the likes of BlackBerry making a comeback - as much as I wished for it to happen. I love the physical keyboard of the Bold 9000/9900 and would like a Q10 ... but the way I see it it is now a two horse race between Android (forked or not) and iOS. Why look at anything else, especially considering the length of a contract (24 months)? Why take the chance of going for something other than Android or iOS? Not even Microsoft is a contender in my mind. There is just no way I will sign a 24 month contract for a Microsoft or BlackBerry device ... and if I had the cash there are much better things to do with > R 8,000 (like getting an iPad Mini, for example).

Nokia - in my opinion - made a massive blunder to go with Microsoft. If the went Android they would have had a whole host of top selling devices out there already. Who wouldn't consider a quality, well designed, Nokia device running Android? I will jump at it in a flash. But now it runs those fugly tiles with limited apps in a confusing ecosystem. I am convinced Elop was planted to bring Nokia to MS ... and it didn't work out for Nokia as promised.

Lol typical comments from the isheep and android herd, geez you guys are so ignorant its not even funny I bet none of you even used a z10 yet but are airing your views as if you know something.Lol get a life fanboys.

I can really see BB staying afloat, they might not get as big as ios and android but i can see them remaining a lot more relevant than windows phone definitely,BBM and their email handling are unmatched until today and the new interface is truly modern and a pleasure to use.The only thing I would love to see though is more apps on the platform but with the q10 coming up soon its almost guaranteed that the app numbers will rise due to much bigger adoption.I personally know tons of people holding on for the q10 especially old bb followers of which there are millions in the world,76 million according to the article.

The Z10 is a pretty impressive phone. Why should it be the end of BlackBerry? They now have a phone that can compete with Apple and Android devices.

The device may be able to compete on a hardware level, but the entire ecosystem is far behind. This is a crucial differentiator.

BlackBerry do have a future, of that there is no doubt. In a few years, their ecosystem could well be better than what iOS and Android offer.

If you have the money to take risks then yes. If however one can only choose a new phone every two years I wouldn't go for anything other than Android or iOS. No way will I put up with a device for so long that may frustrate me no end after the first few weeks. BlackBerry's new offerings must first prove themselves ... and they haven't. How sure are anyone here that BlackBerry will be around a year from now, or that BlackBerry 10 will be successful, and that the devices will be reliable (well made, quality, trustworthy)? With Android (Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC, etc) and iOS (Apple) one has some form of guarantee that one can bank on. Not with BlackBerry ... not any more.

BlackBerry is only going to get traction if they come up with a price plan that is to good not to take up. If not, they will lose hands-down in a one-on-one shoot-out. A Z10 that costs the same as a S4 or Xperia Z, or iPhone is dead in the water, unless it is offered as part of a package that one cannot resist.

One must be a die-hard BlackBerry fan on a mission to make a radical statement to take a Z10 above the iPhone 5 as offered by Cell C at present.

Since you can load stuff from anywhere unlike ios they don't really need an ecosystem to get stuff easily, the only part of the ecosystem that really needs to catch up is the apps itself but so far they have a pretty good start.
