What sort of tax breaks? Don't these countries also provide unemployment benefits from tax payers money?

Depends on the industry. I've had friends in the mining industry go over to Australia without having to pay any tax for the first five years there. They're willing to pay for scarce skills.

Also, I wouldn't mind paying unemployment benefits in the form of tax if there was a reasonable effort by government to not commit maladministration to the point we're seeing in SA and if something like 10% of the country didn't have to support the rest. If I got value for the rather large amount I hand over to SARS each month, I wouldn't mind, but I'm not. Instead there's constantly new, probably corrupt schemes being invented by government to milk the tax payer more.

I live in Pretoria, so... :p

Besides, if you're in Europe, you have the Alps around the corner for your mountains and views, you have Spain for your bikinis and you have Holland for flowers. Trees are around and a lawn isn't everyone's cup of tea, but not all European countries are like London where you live in a shoebox.
 
This is hardly going to help anyone or anything. With the current work ethic in this country, there will be even less desire to find a job and sustain yourself.

Im pretty tired of being taxed, and getting very little in return for my contributions.

From what I gather its a monthly payment of R450-odd with incentives for getting skills developed. Though I loath the idea of my tax money subsidising corporate profits, the original wage subsidy sounds a better way to go, even if it risks older workers being discriminated against.

Why do these people refuse to think? Here they identify two problems (economic growth rate and education of youths), choose to ignore them and take a 'treating-the-symptoms' approach. For the love of all that is good, why aren't we rather looking at the things that cause unemployment instead of just giving the unemployed some 'sorry-you-didn't-quite-make-it' money? :(

IMO It should be tokens. you can exchange it for skills development/education.
At least they will not be given things to burn down.

They should rather give tax breaks to companies that create skills development plans for these youth. See how everybody jumps on that band wagon.
 
It would be awesome if they had a dole system and daily random unemployed person was shot in the face.

That way you'd be able to support those who genuinely need it albeit with a bit of risk, as well as incentivize the lazy to get a job.

Why not? The government can make more money anytime it chooses. Been doing it for yonks. They just need to speed it up.

"Decent work", for example, compulsory training as a "State-Party Enforced Electoral Bid Consolidator", with guaranteed work at least once every five years, with garment and nutrition-motivated auxiliary training in "Conveniently Unassociated Leech-like Political Thuggery & Hooliganism, 101".

still puzzling. the ANC introduced that job-creation programme where I think almost 20bn Rand where supposed to be spent to create jobs. Didn't pick up all the details, but heard a few days back that this programme was a complete failure. Now we are just dishing out money to the unemployment - how will this create jobs.

I think the education system needs to be sorted out first - if you produce adults capable of reading, writing and doing maths, they will be employable anywhere (provided that they have the willingness to work). Then again, news has it that some Mangaung delegates lacked proficiency in those very same skills as well.
