Hi. Firstly I know very little about the details of transferring a domain from one host to another, so please be patient with my non-tech description.

I have had a domain hosted by Cybersmart for many years. I have only used it for forwarding emails. The most important feature was the “catch-all” as I use many different addresses at my domain, but all have to be forwarded to the same mailbox. To Cybersmart’s credit this has worked extremely well. I recently decided to build a website on the domain. To do this I elected to use MWEB’s templates, and therefore switch my domain hosting to MWEB’s “lite” package (free for a year with my premium uncapped ADSL).

I contacted one of MWEB’s sales guys who assured me they did indeed have a “catch-all” feature to this hosting package. I then went through all the processes (the Cybersmart guys were really helpful and courteous, even though I was moving away from them). MWEB sent the ticket, it was accepted by Cybersmart, and the registrar and nameserver details were updated on the Uniforum “whois” within hours.

The problem came when I tried to set up the catchall for on the MWEB Cpanel. Couldn’t do it, and MWEB’s tech support confirmed it couldn’t be done without a much more expensive package. The only option was to revert the hosting back to Cybersmart. Once again the tech guys (both MWEB and Cybersmart) were great. Cybersmart sent the ticket, and MWEB accepted it. The “registrar” details on the Uniforum “whois” changed back to Cybersmart, but the nameserver details remained MWEB.

The issue has been referred to the hosting specialists at both Cybersmart and MWEB, but neither has come back to me. In the meantime I am getting no email and my wife’s small company is suffering.

Any advice on what went wrong, and what to do about it would be greatly appreciated..

Ian

They would show instantly if they changed back, it takes hours to propagate which means it was not done correctly.

Post domain names so we can see

thanks,,, will pm it...

The official figure is 48 to 72 hours propagation time.

Even though the Registrar name has changed. I thought both the registrar and nameserver details would change at the same time.

Hi Fans,

Could you please PM me the domain name and I'll take a look and advise from there?

By the sounds of it, and this is a wild guess without having basic info at hand
1. Cybersmart initiated the transfer and used the mweb name servers at the time of transfer
2. The clean-up process failed after the domain was transferred to Cybersmart's RAR account.

Once this issue is resolved, you should be able to have the domain managed by Cybersmart and resolve to their servers and keep your mx records pointed to their mail servers which provide catchall functionality. Point your A and www records to mweb's servers and use their web servers for the free hosting.

Thanks Server-Admin.net, PM sent.

How would I go about pointing my A and www records to mweb's servers?

I think you can point it using CPanel interface as I see Cybersmart uses it - There is a DNS editor and Advanced DNS Editor for DNS changes to be made.
