My fiance and I recently bought into a sectional title, and now with the first month levy statement, the managing agent has added a domestic effluent charge, nearly R 600, but we are paying rates and taxes of nearly R 1000.

Can they do this?

This is correct.

That's not a joburg thing.

Water here costs 77p per KL.

It's deemed that 95% of that goes down the sewer. Sewage charge is over ÂŁ2 per KL.

That's not a CoJ thing, CoJ has a sewerage fee that works on property size

Ok. I own multiple units in the same estate. From a 1 bedroom to a 3 bedroom. We get a huge bill, and no matter the size, it work out R598 per unit.

So either our BC dont know what PQ is....

That's strange, but it seems sectional titles are billed as multi dwelling now, when I stayed in one they are billed as blocks of flats, this changed in 2020 and caused a lot of back payments, which you could be paying now.

We got billed R2 000 000 in back dated water charges! Lol
