Firing André de Ruyter is a bad idea — Expert

Firing Eskom CEO André de Ruyter will bring nothing but instability and uncertainty to the power utility, according to the University of Stellenbosch's director for renewable energy Sampson Mamphweli.

In an interview with 702, Mamphweli explained that the best way forward is to fully implement President Cyril Ramaphosa's plan to fix Eskom under its current board and with its current CEO.

Cyril is not a rational, intelligent, educated, experienced and sane person. This is where the problem lies. His plans can never work.

De Ruyter must go. He is incapable.

Firing De Ruyter would have been logical under normal circumstances.

Unfortunately, ESKOM and South Africa problems have one root cause: ANC. Get rid of ANC, then we can talk about fixing this country.

Firing him wouldn't have a positive outcome.
Only reason to fire him really is because he is white.

“There is anger because the power crisis is costing us votes. If there’s load-shedding, then we lose votes — and there is always load-shedding,” they reportedly said.

Good to see that members of the NEC have their priorities straight when it comes to counting the cost of loadshedding. Nevermind jobs, peoples' livelihoods, health and wellbeing etc, lost votes is the big factor here.

I saw this headline and immediately was reminded of a Boney M song. Nonetheless let's add some new lyrics shall we:
Don't fire De Ruyter
Don't let White South Africa down
Do not destroy "turnaround"
Don't fire De Ruyter
Our means of scapegoating
Lend ear to struggling business cry

Don't fire De Ruyter
He's all we have
And surely is
Worth to save (poeskom)
Don't let him down
Fight for returning units to service
Go on and do
The one who wins is NOT you

Don't fire De Ruyter
Help him survive

Cherish Eskom
A present from Old South Africa
On behalf of all the remaining whiteys
Made not of emigration

Care for Poeskom
Foundation of Power
Slow ANC corruption down, help her survive.

No, only reason to fire him is that he is challenging the culture of rampant fraud and theft at Eskom, and many previously disadvantaged people are not happy about it.
Not him, or his replacement or anyone will ever receive the necessary power and co operation to rid Eskom of its criminal elements.

"Ramaphosa’s plan includes bringing skilled engineers back to Eskom, incentivising the uptake of rooftop solar, and buying surplus capacity from independent power producers."

Are they still planning about having a plan to plan a plan for this?

Minister of mineral resources and energy Gwede Mantashe accused Eskom of “actively agitating for the overthrow of the state” through intensified rotational power cuts.

He believes the power cuts will be resolved when Eskom fixes its operational problems — something he claims can be achieved within half a year of focused maintenance.
The answer to our problems has been there all the time.

Just put this genius in charge and he'll have it fixed in 6 months...

They're politicians. It's all the lot of them care about.

The problem is that almost no-one else will do the job.

I would, because I would relish the opportunity to give the finger to Gordhan before he fires me

This is a fact.

Eskom has collapsed. We have experienced a total collapse of the grid.

The question is not who is going to save Eskom, simply because the ANC has collapsed it properly. No one will ever save Eskom. The actual question is, can the ANC let generation go into private companies, whether it is coal, nuclear or whatever and exclude them from all South African laws, unions and government and allow them to function?
