DOOM 2016 PC physical media

Using Deep packet Inspection they can see everything. It's quite easy to tell Steam downloads from Torrents and News downloads. Most ISPs actually prioritize steam and deprioritize other downloads.

I see, so it wont be flagged as piracy, so thats good to know,

but my question still remains, if you downloading a 30+ GB game via steam and say you dont have uncapped internet,
surely it will cost you more?

I mean even if you top up your account, it will cost a small fortune to get the game

and afterwards, do you need to use your internet to play the game single player?

still dont get this business model, surely not everybody has uncapped internet?

When was the last time you checked capped packages, most if not all of them have uncapped after hours data, and speaking only for myself I have 300GB per month and it only costs R328.

fair enough on ADSL, but what if you got iburst?

it cost a small fortune to get this, and some people only have 3g or LTE internet no ADSL
how do they suppose people who buy the retail pack and then DL the game.

surely this DL requirement is driving many more to piracy?
I mean if it cost X and then Y amount of data and then still Z amount of data each month, its expensive?

fair enough ADSL and uncapped and all that jazz, but again not everybody has those things......

look if it was a small amount to DL, and once a month a small DL again, Id go for it,
but this is just extreme, surely better to DL a pirated copy and then play offline as long as you want,
and share with your friends like the good old days?

I know piracy is bad and wrong, but surely did they not think of this issue when you buy the game for X and then you need to DL so much
and even that has cost, and then the rest of the time you need to be online....

surely its a bad business model? limits access to casual players and non technical people....

The only consoles that don't require a download and can play straight off the disc/cart at the moment is the Nintendo WiiU & 3DS

For what it's worth.

Bethesda unfortunately cater for the majority of people, meaning the rest of the civilised world that have access to fibre, it doesn't make financial sense to the publisher to have multiple discs meaning more time and manufacturing costs, for people like a lot of South Africans that have internet that would have been adequate in 2000, not 2016.

You also can't pirate the game because it uses Denuvo DRM which hasn't been cracked for months now and probably won't ever be, at least not soon.

fair enough, I do agree with you,

living here in africa has its downsides,
but cant the publisher make a copy just for us? I mean surely many more people would play if it was possible without an internet connection?

so yes higher cost initially, but more players afterwads,

yes denuvo and so on, but I not the only one complaining.....

Why would they add extra steps, meaning higher costs to them for the extreme minority?

Would you be willing to pay a R1000 for the game and have 10 discs?

I suppose if I didnt have internet, Id go for it.....

I mean DL with a slow connection with data prices being what their are, it cost more to DL it...

maybe its a small minority, but why can their be a copy( special order) for us?

Is multi-bluray discs a thing yet?

We are talking about a country or place where you can't download the game because of horrible internet, do you think those people have Blu-ray drives?

If we are talking about Xbox One and PS4 which already have Blu-ray I agree that it was a mistake not having the entire game on the disc and just have a couple of GB day one patch.

Well sooner or later, DVD must die. It's the natural progression in the same way that at some point, CD drives died.

It makes far more sense to support bluray exclusively, than to ship on DVD and expect the rest to be downloaded. If we're talking about the support for DVD drives due to a lack of access to bluray drives, wouldn't it be counter-intuitive to expect a decent internet connection for someone who is still stuck on DVD anyway?

but on PC, surely they should think of us?
make it a special order item, or even if its such a bother, BT games/matrix warehouse could have copies they would physically load for you,
using their internet connection, if you cant with your Internet at home....

I mean maybe somebody would think of these things? surely its a nice idea?

nice source of additional income for them, get your PC upgraded and pick a game and have them load it for you using their internet connecton and all the DL,
and set it to offline always....

Because in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make business/financial sense.

If someone really wants the game and they really don't have a way to download it, you can just ask your friendly forumites for help, it's a sad reality but Bethesda really don't need the couple thousand rand extra to add more work for them.

The UN states that internet access is a basic human right, far more people have access to the internet than something very niche like a Blu-ray drive.

I do agree with you though and I would have liked Blu-ray to be mainstream by now, I have a Blu-ray drive that I bought five years ago that hardly sees any use.

so yes higher cost initially, but more players afterwards,

This has been requested hundreds if not thousands of times for <insert popular online game with EU servers> to bring servers to SA

/inb4 anything valve related

I wish my LTE got decent signal, then this would only be a 90 minute download instead of 3 hours :(

internet access is a human right? really? this is something I never heard about...

why can they go back to blu ray copies and you be forced to upgrade your DVD drive?

or are games too big even for a Blu ray drive?

but soul-assassin , what about my idea? get BT games or matrix or CNA to allow you to buy the copy and some tech guy would start the DL and check that it actually works, and do the upgrade of drivers if necessary ect....

I mean surely by the amount of returns they have this is a viable option? even an extra revenue stream?

or even they lend you an external with the game, leave a deposit and copy the game at home.

surely there must be an easier way of playing AAA games without massive DL or piracy for people that dont have fast enough internet....

Oh come'on. That is just a brag hidden in a complaint.

Took me 17-18 hours to download - don't complain about 3 hours. :p
