Doom Eternal

I just found that Doom 3 / Doom (2016) didn't feel comical like this one, even the original doom at the time had a "scare" factor.........it's lost in this version. this just doesnt feel as dark. Feels more duke Nukem like

Right at the start there was a room that almost felt quake 3 with jump pads etc like and i absolutely loved it, and then the rinse / repeat just killed it for me after that.

I don't think the 'scare factor' was high on their list other than being an arcade-like experience. Which is what I crave when I flip on zdoom/zandronum to fly through the demons shooting. *shrugs*

Completely agree. Looking back it felt like they tried to make a first person Dead Space and then lost the essence of what made it Doom. Can't wait for the inevitable price drop so I can pick it up cheaper.

Great game but not on the same level why you would say Dead Space is a great game. DOOM Eternal is the Mario Bros of first person shooters. Nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.

Just my experience so far. I completed Doom 2016 last week while i was downloading doom eternal.
I can agree to the "Doom 2016 is much darker", but I have to say gore wise they are very much on par, to some extent even favouring Eternal. (Also, if you set your gamma a bit lower, Eternal can be dark AF) :)

Seeing as it makes such a massive impact, I dont mind the colourfull ammo, ill choose the 2016 version ofcourse, but it really wont make me NOT play the game at all. That is just rediculous. Obviously, the game is not for everyone, but I am sure that most of you bought this game to just straight up murder demons and bash skulls, because that is what I think this game was meant to be.

Overall I can see myself spending a lot more time on this which will make the pricetag worth it. If you really feel the game was too ez, try upping the difficulty or do some master levels.

I watched DraQu's first Ultra-Nightmare playthrough, and that just made me want to play it even more.

Played a lot of Doom 2016 Arcade mode (slaying at max speed), and it looks like they based Doom Eternal pretty much on Doom 2016's Arcade gameplay - not necessarily a bad thing if you're used to it.
Was disappointed after reading a lot of reviews, but now that I'm playing it I'm having lots of fun on ultra violence, even if certain mechanics are a bit annoying at times (like some of the parkour jumps).

Dead Space > Doom III

Doom 3 is an odd game in my opinion. It was good when it released, but placing it between Doom 2 and Doom (2016) it isn't a Doom game anymore.

Also, not many people have realised, but Doom Eternal made every Doom canon with Doom 3 being the exception though one may argue that Doom 3 is placed in another universe unrelated completely to Doom Guy turned Doom Slayer.

I like Dead Space 1, 2 and 3, and the animated movies. It isn't really comparable to Doom, the lore, but it is an exceptional title which aged incredibly well.

Just to add, the Doom Eternal lore, seeing some criticism, it does hint at becoming a bit Warhammer'ish.

I am enjoying this much more than I thought I would. Reviews sometimes means nothing.

I don't know which reviews you have read, but in general, across all critics, this game punched way above than expected and it pretty much already claimed 2020 pending on how well Cyberpunk 2077 will be received...

Capcom messed up with Resident Evil 3 which I assumed would be trading blows with Doom, and it may do better than Doom Eternal.

Another title doing really well at the moment is the Final Fantasy VII Remake. I only hope that Bloodlines 2 will be a surprise.

That's the odd thing about defining what constitutes a Doom game and why I laughed when people earlier in the thread put a peg in Doom 3 as a defining example as that was heavily lambasted for being not "Doom" enough when it came out. Perhaps this is down to D3 being the first current Doom game they played at the time?

There have been multiple sequels since the original 2 games, with each bringing a new fresh perspective to the Doom franchise. Each has its merits/challenges, its proponents and its critics, but overall the entire series has been pretty much overwhelmingly praised.

Personally I'm glad we didn't get Doom 2016 Part 2. It would have been so easy to go down that road given the (relatively) short space of time between the last 2 installments.

I didn't enjoy it, one bit. Played 6 hours, won't pick it up again. Doom 3, still my favorite off the franchise.
I sold my gaming PC last year and my laptop isn't powerful enough to play any of my Steam collection.

Due to the boredom of being locked in, I sailed the high seas and acquired Doom 3 BFG Edition. I'm about two hours in and enjoying it (I never played it when it came out).

I am of course super biased towards DeadSpace

Liked the movies, read the book and played the games. Nothing wrong with D3, it was good for what it was, but I prefer RoE. Of course, if you played D3 you should also should have played the mod Classic Doom from Flaming sheep.

Anyone here actually played the andriod/ios version of the rpg-like doom(s)?

When are they going to release new master levels!?

Finished the one (don't have the pre-order one), and I want more dammit!
