Dota 2

I've done a fair amount of botting, and as far as I can see the skill level you choose largely determines your bot team-members skill rather than the opposition.

Ie on Easy bots, you can jungle away and your team will win in 25min, medium they "might" require your help and on hard they certainly do.
Other thing I find irritating about bots is after the laning phase the other team simply hold hands and deathballs around.

but @Trolol...

The Dota community can be a harsh one. Especially in lower brackets. Also, a lot of people smurf (something I don't get) and then shout at other low level peeps who don't know anything.

It's a tough learning curve, but can be rewarding.

I'm in the potato or slap tjips league, I try to play support and most of the games, I buy lots of wards and general stuff to help the carries out, I never last hit when with the carry, but some times they don't bother either. After 30min I have the most kills and have only support items. After that the enemy is farmed from everyone that picked a carry on our team. I am so behind in my winter support challenges its not fun anymore.

Ok, just maybe a side-question for the experts here...

Since we don't have a ranked system in SA (ok we do, but not queuing for an hour) I assume then matchmaking for normal pub is purely done on your Dota level?

I'm now ranked 39, and the spread of teammates and opposition is anything from 10 to 65-ish. Sometimes it's a nice 28-45 spread, but not very often.

- Should I bother trying to get a MMR?
- Does pub matchmaking purely go on Dota rank?

@jacodebeer It's often happened to me during the lower levels. I fancy myself quite a decent Crystal Maiden, and I finished a lot of games being 20-3 or something, basically carrying. That with buying both couriers and warding like the ward-**** she is. Until eventually in the higher levels people stun you out of your ulti.

As far as I understand it just like you have MMR scores for solo and group MMR in ranked you have solo and group MMR numbers for public matches. The difference is the public MMR number is hidden. You can't determine that hidden MMR number from your dota level number.

Public matchmaking pairs you with opponents based on your hidden solo or group public MMR.

There is also an algorithm that attempts to match you with players grouped in parties of the same number (e.g. if you're searching as 4 you are more likely to end up facing another group of 4). I think this was done to stop teamspeaking, organised and communicating 5 stacks pub-stomping a set of 5 solo queuers.

I've found potato bracket games almost always take a long time. The carries take ages to farm up. They aren't picking up their first items until something like 30min in or worse.

Sounds like you need to make a habit of teaming with guys that know how to carry.

I have noticed that playing vs insane bots will make me quit dota all together. The OPPOSING team's bots are insane - yours is potato. Things like a support pushing a lane solo at 30 minutes in, no items then they get rekt by the entire bot squad. Then lo-and-behold the other 3 members of team potato-bot go in one by one to go "fight" the enemy...

Quite *** actually.

Deadman - missed your invite yesterday. Was looking forward to jamming with you - but for some reason Dota doesn't give you audible notifications when you are in game (vs bots or spectating). Only saw your invite when I was done. Sorry mate.

All good Bruv, I assure you be glad you didn't join. Sunday morning dota is dog painful!

In the potato bracket pick n hero that can roam and support but turn into a carry when your team is the potato.. I find mirana as my favorite for this.. With our small pool the skill level can sometimes differ greatly so you gamble

That is exactly why I pair up if I can. There is absolutely no way I queue solo on a Sunday morning. All the weirdo's who don't know their ass from a tango plays solo on a Sunday morning.

I think I'm going to give up on the support path thingy, I have to de-ward 2 observer wards. No one ever wards in potato...EVER.

On that note, the path of the Blossom says available 5-15 Feb, but mine is still going? I only have 2 quests left, the 35min Win one (1/3) and the last Ember one. Would like to finish it actually.

Guess just keep on those quests till I can't anymore?
