Dowloading using torrents? You are being watched!

They just need to realise that once an affordable viable alternative is provided, people actually prefer buying instead of pirating. Steam is a great example of this. Summer sales ftw! :D

its called seeding :D

By doing this they are helping to spread the content and thus endorsing it.
If they are sharing the content to try and monitor people that's called entrapment.

The hooker can't ask you to pay for sex.
 
OK so what now? Are they secretly building a massive base station on Mars so that one day "the authorites" can swoop down and arrest the Globe?

I increasingly get the feeling that those are not enough to protect you these days. Those block lists are not perfect, as stated in the article. Also, encryption doesn't help all that much - they still log your IP when it connects to their machines.
 
I received an infringement notice from my ISP. It was forwarded by them from some other company.
Anyways I'm a bit scared to download anything now.

On the money, the territory based system is really outdated as is everything else about the current delivery system. Really they should be making it easy to access good quality content at a reasonable price. Itunes is such a great example, yet the film industry just can't seem to wrap their minds around it. FFS still focussing on box office and DVDs. Please.

I have legal access to content (DSTV + ondemand), but I prefer to download the shows via the alleged "illegal" torrent sites as I can get better quality content and all the shows when I actually want to watch them. Entertainment needs to fall in to my my schedule, not try to shape it.

Maybe move to a non-IS-reseller ISP would be a start. I get no issues on MWEB, but used to get them on my old ISP.

Used to rape my line as well, had no issues with MWeb

A quick note, my line has been upgrade to 2Mbps and I am still running a 1Mbps MWEB ADSL account. If I do a speedtest I get 1Mbps, but in reality for all content (Youtube video for example) and things like torrents I am getting close to 2Mbps:) Absolute bargain!!!! For once the Ookla test is well below true throughput!

Send your ISP a email instructing them to forward it on to the issuer of the infringement notice and warn them that they are breaking SA law by monitoring your private information?

Is it wrong to tell someone that all torrents are open source ... and they can download to their hearts content?

Films and series on iTunes are too expensive though.

Might want to think twice before you just use a word like that so casually are you saying that it is something to laugh about after it becomes a kitchen word?

But people are very willing to pay these prices for ease of use, the platform and delivery is set up well. That is the lesson here, I am sure many of those people are capable of downloading torrents, but would rather pay for a simple, easy method of accessing the content. I am willing to bet a lot of those people would rather torrent than go out and physically buy a CD or DVD or only be able to watch a specific episode on a specific day.
