Dowloading using torrents? You are being watched!

If we had decent content to watch we wouldn't have to download torrents. When last did we see good programs
on tv with regards to western arts & music? Yeah right the tv channels are all aimed at providing entertainment
for the masses, which becomes a problem.

That is why subscribers to pay-tv channels want to select what they want to see, not what big-brother dishes
up this evening.

Let's look at Sat 8 Sep 2012 M-Net content [from 12h00 to 16h30 for eg].:

12h00 So You Think You Can Dance 'S9/E16 - 9/16'
12h45 So You Think You Can Dance 'S9/E17 - 9/17'
13h30 So You Think You Can Dance 'S9/E18 - 9/18'.
14h15 So You Think You Can Dance 'S9/E19 - 9/19'.

15h00 The Wild 'S1/E297 - 1/297'.
15h30 The Wild 'S1/E298 - 1/298'.
16h00 The Wild 'S1/E299 - 1/299'.
16h30 The Wild 'S1/E300 - 1/300'.

Then going to e-tv from 17h00 you can watch WWE: NXT 'S1/E130 - 1/130' with live-action
showing eight WWE superstars and eight WWE rookies beating each other to death.
Ep.300?? How many are there?

And when there is a decent movie on SABC or e-tv you have to edit the darn movie on your
pc to make it watchable due to all the ad-breaks. Even M-NET's FRINGE has to be edited,
besides the noise and snow inadvertently creeping in.

But wait-here's the kicker-my pet hate: whenever there's an important sports-event all the
program schedules become a farce, with shows vanishing or moved on by 2 - 4 hrs.
Would sports-lovers like it if they had to wait for a scheduled program to finish while missing
all the important action? NO. So likewise if you don't like sport you are screwed, whether
you like it or not.

So leave us alone and we will leave your endless repeats and sports alone? :D

Most of Multichoice's budget goes on the many sports deals they have and it's the main reason they have so many subscribers. SA has the best sports coverage on earth and we pay comparatively little for it. Multichoice will always give their bread and butter preference over the other stuff.

This is why I use carrier pigeons.

EDIT: @Johand, lol, you use a VPN to watch YouTube? I promise the feds don't care if you watch birthing videos.

It was a bit tong in the cheek. But it actually has a point. When you encrypt only the stuff you want to hide, then it is obvious you want to hide something. That is why it is important to hide unimportant stuff as well. I am currently encrypting as much dull stuff as I can, including YouTube so that when the WorldPolice (tm) starts analyzing traffic I already have a history of encrypted VPN traffic from before the transition period. Previously it might have been YouTube, but now it might be WikiLeaks torrents.

Above example is a joke. i am certainly not sharing information that threaten our currentor future overlords. And agenda 21 is a communist conspiracy that threatens our fundamental freedoms.

I can rent a disc for less than I'd pay on something like iTunes. TV series in particular tend to have ludicrous prices. The lesson as far as I'm concerned is provide a service, download whatever you want up to say 100Gb, for a low monthly subscription and forget about selling individual items. No restrictions on what gets downloaded. Keep it forever if you want, watch it everyday for the rest of your life if you want. I'd happily subscribe to something like that for the low cost and convenience of knowing I'm getting good HD copies without having to be concerned whether some ripper has cocked it up.

I think you misunderstand the point I was making, the film houses are concerned that they will not be able to make money using a better delivery medium, iTunes proves that people are willing to pay for convenience and will actually rather pay than download illegally if the convenience factor is worth it.

I don't agree with the current iTunes etc pricing, I still think there is plenty to be improved on there, but the idea works and proves cost is not the only issue causing piracy, it is the outdated delivery and licensing models they continue to hold on to.
