Downstorm torrent server to bypass shaping

No bandwidth limit. Should come in handy when Telkom finally upgrades their line speeds. Imagine downloading a 5GB file on a 8mbps or even 12mbps line speed, not too shabby!
 
If you only get 30KB download speed over http/s on a 4MB line then this is useless don't you think? Unshaped, uncapped and non-throttled is the only way to go, that is if the ISP has the infrastructure to support it, which none have currently...

After this whole boom of "Cheap 4MB uncapped service" every ISP is suffering regarding speed and latencies, some more than others though.
 
Most ISP's are shaping HTTP content too. So i doubt you'll get full line speed. Really great concept tho.

If i was the brainchild of this innovative way of making money I wouldn't sleep well. You're effectively putting yourself up to be sued like PirateBay was sued.

Downstorm is effectively makng heaps of money out of pirated content . Sure, they can say their service is only for legit torrents and they can't help if people are abusing it for illegal stuff, but they're still another enabler of pirated content.

I predict Downstorm will be shut down in the next year.

Innovative? Bloody stupid. The ISP's can just shape all of downstorm's IPs.
 
I'm pretty positive this won't last. Either they'll be shut down (for many obvious reasons) or ISPs will implement other forms of throttling. If people are going to nail http for downloads instead of torrents there will be a great deal of degradation somewhere so new policies will be implemented I'm sure. If ISPs can block access to certain sites (e.g. I think Afrihost blocked access to Youtube when Seacom was donw?) they can obviously block access to this site (unless they implement measures to randomise access, etc. but this will probably be in contravention of many TOSs anyway).
 
This is exactly like AeroVPS, just more expensive. I've been using aero now for a month and am very happy. You do get download speeds extremely close to line speeds.

No these guy don't infringe copyright. Piratebay runs cause they don't host the files only allow people who do to find them (tracker). Downstorm file are downloaded by the user and are private so technically Downstorm shouldn't even know what on there servers and therefore can't be held responsible.

Downstorm used to download at full speeds but since yesterday I suspect MWEB has caught on.

My Downstorm still downloads at full speed when using a download manager on my Mweb account. It's a great service!!

I am sure Mweb knew before.It's been out for a while,and any self-respecting downloader should know all his options and if the techies at mweb do there job half as well as they should (not that I approve of thier shaping ways) of knowing about it way before. Plus they just need to take a peek at bandwidth usage and see where it coming from. Not very hard at all.

In this case ignorance is not bliss: just because they want to turn a blind eye as to what is on their server doesn't mean they are exempt, they will ultimately be responsible as it's their server and they are hosting illegal content.
 
Illegal content? Just because it's a torrent, you naturally assume it's illegal.
