Have a pc with a laptop right next to it. Both connected to internet on different networks. I want to share files between them drag & drop rather than going via dropbox / drive / teamviewer etc. Any app suggestions for something I can run on each pc that'll create a common shared folder between them?

WinSCP with SFPT/SSH maybe?

EDIT:
Filezilla, can be a client&server.
cwrsync on both sides with regular syncs where a specific folder is synced the whole time

I don't like opening things up to the internet unless it goes via ssh. One of the first things I do when setting up my laptop is configuring openssh server for access to a specific folder.

Uhh.... you are asking for a security problem. Honestly the quickest secure way for you to do so is a onedrive or dropbox folder. For a more personalized solution the best bet is a shared ftp folder hosted on either of the machines or somewhere else - but then you need to do port forwarding and other firewall rules

Seeing as both are next to each other you can also create a second network either via wifi or lan. Put each interface into a different subnet and do local sharing that way, it will also be much faster than going via the internet. This would be the best solution imho.'

How does the pc & laptop currently connect to the internet, wifi or ethernet cable?

The functionality you describe is essentially dropbox & co...but then you say you don't want that?

Weird...

If you want a simple mapped shared drive you're asking for trouble unless you set up your own random pin secure vpn network etc... just use dropbox or something.

I'm not sure of a drag & drop method as in you drag the file on one screen and drop it on the other screen. You can just share files over the network (not Internet) . If you want to sync files between the two computers on a regular basis you can use a service like Alwaysync or SyncBack or whatever you prefer. If you want to use a single mouse and keyboard for two or more PC's you can use something like Synergy from Symless or mousewithoutborders.

Edit: You said different network. Never mind. Helps to read. :D
