Is it even worth it to look at reviews by the media? In my opinion it is best to look at user reviews, but it is also best to give the game a go... then again, games are expensive nowadays.
ZD and Future plc have long aligned gaming reviews. Both media conglomerates who have historically made huge turnarounds. Whatever they are doing, it works. However, it is easy to see the culture they crave, and narratives they carve.
Who knows, perhaps Veilguard is not a bad game. I think that the reviews are littered with bias though. It is more a question whether the inclination is incentivized, nostalgic, or genuine?
Regardless, everyone has a right to an opinion. I am sure the game will have its crowd among these parts too.

User reviews are not that reliable either and are susceptible to things like mob mentality. See the plenty of times users have review bombed things for the dumbest reasons. Best to take an average of the two and decide for yourself...or play a demo if it's available.

Pretty scummy by Bioware.
I normally trust reviews by Mortismal Gaming and it's his game of the year so far which is pretty impressive. Personally, I'll wait for it to come to Game Pass.
Yeah. Its bit frustrating that 2 out of 3 of my trusted YouTube reviewers didn't get copies. Neither fextra or wolfheartfps got any but mort did really like it and I trust him.

I agree. User reviews are the way to go these days. Will be interesting to see what the Steam reviews will be like. Especially if the media reviews were cherry picked by Bioware.
I love the Dragon Age lore and stories but man I'm still not sold on this one. I have nothing against trans people but why on earth did they need to bring that into the game? Some of the dialogue I watched now is so cringe.

Genuinely neutral review from Skill Up. He lists all the pros and cons and justifies it. Didn't once mention anything about woke or non-woke. It's actually just really sad, I had high hopes for this game. Will be skipping it and picking it up on sale or waiting for Game Pass...

And no I'm not going looking for negative reviews, just good old fashioned honest ones because I want to know whether to buy it...

Well as a huge fan of Dragon Age (and Bioware in general), I will get Veilguard even if all reviews were negative.
Reviews don't mean anything to me really. The only opinion that counts is my own
But will say though that all reviews I have seen, even the not so positive ones, still say it's a great game and a return to form for Bioware.

No interest in the game as such, but I'm following the scummy behavior from EA/Bioware with the review copies.
It raises an immediate red flag and once again makes it painfully obvious how compromised gaming "journalism" and reviews are these days.
I suspect they have a sub-par game on their hands filled with the type of stuff gamers are pushing back on recently...and they know it and it's too late.
Let it all burn. Let's have that gaming crash thats been predicted for so many years so it flushes the industry out a bit.

The last couple of Bioware games (Andromeda and Anthem) were both failures. Dreadwolf aka Veiguard was always promised to be Bioware's redemption so the fact that it is being praised by critics means it is indeed a return to form for Bioware.
