Dramatic but Consistent LTE Speed drop

I have the uncapped LTE package, which I am a massive fan of... but my speeds were a rock-solid consistent: 45mb down and 8mb up.... now I am getting a rock-solid and consistent 10mb down and 5mb up.....this has been on-going for 2 to 3 weeks now. Doesn't matter what time of day or night... peak or not peak.... doesn't change at all.

I have proof of this with speed test results that I log and track from the same testing server.

I also have two Telkom external Poynting LTE antennas on my roof, so I pointed one at the main mast near my home and the 2nd to another mast and I am getting the same speeds from both masts (both antennas).

I have also tried changing from the 2300mhz LTE band to the 1800mhz LTE band with the same results off both antennas. A rock-solid and consistent 10mb down and 5mb up. (1800mhz gives 10mb up obviously)

The fault doesn't appear to be my equipment as I am using two different external antenna pointed at two different Telkom masts, with the same results.

Fault logged with Telkom and they have called me (1st call - to "check on my facts")... but has anyone else got this issue in the last 2 / 3 weeks ?

My Telkom masts are in Cape Town - Blouberg / Parklands / Tableview Area.

These are my daily averages over the past 3 weeks. Four speed tests are done throughout the day:

A definite downward trend over the past week.

I am not based in Blouberg but have experienced a similar fall off in speeds on the uncapped LTE package in Jhb over the last month.

My gut feeling is Telkom is deliberately throttling users -
(I am not referring to the throttling that kicks in when hitting the 300GB fair usage limit on this uncapped LTE product).

Yes.. Telkom is throttling speeds.. Same story here in Durban but at least my speeds are around 20Mb.. Was way higher @ 50Mb..

I think the problem lies after telkom started routing traffic on their adsl network.. They use software that regulates the net by throttling connections so the network is stable but I think it's gone a bit to far.. Lte is no longer lte.. Service is comparable to 3G

I'm also in your area and I've been experiencing exactly the same until today - back to normal. I just got 48mbps down and 5mbps up.

I have a speed increase too from around midday... but sadly only 1/2 of what I normally was getting :erm: ... I am now getting a solid 20mb down and 5mb up.

45mb again dreaming, but I guess it's a start.

Interestingly, if I swap towers, the main tower (huge visible main Telkom tower) is only giving me 10mb down and 5mb up. Swap back to the second external antenna (the tower that I can't see and found using signal strength) and I get 20mb down and 5mb up.

Fingers crossed that I get my 45mb back... but it's a good start from Telkom to try to fix this issue.:p

Well.... that didn't last long.... 4 hours of 20mb and now back down to 10mb down and 5mb up :( ..... Guess they didn't fix it or find the fault on my side.... is yours still at 45mb down ? :wtf:

7.5mbps up and down

Its everywhere. I am in Pretoria, when I signed up two years ago was consistently getting 45 to 50mb download speeds. Started to notice slowing down about 10 months ago. Has gotten worse ever since. Now I get about 18 to 20mb on a good day. Get 6 to 7 on bad days.

Have tried playing with settings, 1800 and 2300. My signal is more consistent on 1800 so have settled on that for now.

And then to top it off they sent me a sms on my router saying my price will revert from the R599 special to the new price of R700 and something.

Thankfully that never happened, having been paying R535 for the past two months since my contract went month to month.

I just wish the speeds would get back to what they were.

I am in JHB (Allens Nek / Constantia Kloof) and my speeds on LTE uncapped have been terrible lately. this happens all day long.
i was also getting 45mbps when i started using it.
