A Jaguar driver has been arrested for driving at 231 km/h on the N4 near Alkmaar‚ outside Nelspruit.

The driver has been taken to the Nelspruit police station for detention before his court appearance‚ said Joseph Mabuza‚ spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety‚ Security and Liaison. He will be charged with reckless and negligent driving.

MEC Pat Ngomane applauded the two arresting officers for their great work‚ saying that suicidal drivers should be removed from the road as they also put the lives of other road users in danger.

LOL ... so speedsters are now considered "suicidal"? :crylaugh: ... I think you'll find the driver very much still planned on living after the fact.

Guys he obviously suffered brake failure and a sticky accelerator cable. The cops shouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly.

I would think he is suicidal. Thats not one of the best roads we have, you need balls of steel to maintain that sort of speeds there.

Anyway what an over reaction by the nanny state. Stop going after the soft targets. The guy probably only "tested" his car on the only straight piece of road.

No problem if it was a private road. But it isn't.

Lol. It shouldn't be a problem on any road. Ever driven there? The overloaded taxis/busses that can hardly make it up the mountain passes is way more of a safety risk than some windgat guy in a jaguar.

People are quite judgemental about people like these in high performance cars ... but only if they are caught.

The others that have the same types of cars and that are not caught, escape our judgement. But I can asure you, most of these people have also at one time or another "tested" their cars at similar speeds. They have just not been caught.

It's a public road with a speed limit well below 231km/h. What others are doing has nothing to do with this case.

Why? Are the slow overloaded taxis or busses going to drive into me at speed from behind, or into my side when I enter from a side road?

Which is a shame.

Who said anything about maintaining?

He could have managed that just overtaking a truck or something...and be safer for it if not for the silly copper with the camera next to the road spoiling his day.
