Certain sections of the road cannot safely accommodate no speed limits so they are speed limited. Once no speed limits can be accommodated then it's a free for all again. Also, it is an "intelligent" highway that can automatically impose speed limits when there is fog or slow traffic or roadworks. But the best of all is that the drivers obey these limits. Apart from Lord Farquart of course. :)

Well, obviously rietrot also wouldn't want to obey it either, so still supportive of with his view, no limits anywhere?

Having a speed limit outside a school or in an urban area is neither stupid nor arbitrary.

What is the correct speed limit for next to a school?20, 40, 60, 80 these are arbitrary numbers. I do anything from 20 to 80 in residential areas, whatever I consider safe at the time.

I'd go with 50. Not gonna do the maths but I think 50 would provide sufficient time to observe, react and stop. At the very least if you do hit the kid then it will be at 20 or so. About the same as running into a wall.

Urban areas should be limited. Certain sections of highways should not be limited.
 
Comparing the Autobahn to SA roads is actually a futile exercise. The Germans tend to be law abiding drivers. The overwhelming majority of South Africans haven't got a fu****g clue of what's happening around them on the road.

Exactly, the problem isn't the cars, besides the inadequate road design and the lack of upkeep, it's the SA drivers and their antics.

Just proofs my point. We generally use 60km/h sometimes 40. The point is not to stick to some magic number but to slow down and make sure you don't hit any children when they are outside. I'm much more in favour of teaching people common sense than the nanny state system with maximum limits that people treat as the norm or only obey in the presence of police.

I don't think speed limits are thumbsucked. I'm sure there is some science behind those numbers. Somebody will post a link to explain those numbers shortly.

This could also apply to residential areas, schools whatever. So with my suggestion we won't fine people for speeding but could still deal with reckless driving.

Go back to reading the bible, obviously there is no speed limit in consideration the recklessness in relation to my post, which you quoted, since that is what me and rietrot are discussing.
