Given that all cars have speedo's that over read and the error margin grows as the speeds get higher you might have been going 160km/h only :p

When I do speed runs I always whip out the GPS ;)

JOHANNESBURG - Two pregnant women have been knocked over and killed by a speeding car on the N14 just after the Beyers Naude off-ramp in Johannesburg.

Paramedics say the pair was returning home on Wednesday afternoon from their regular checkup at a nearby clinic.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha says the women were trying to cross the road when they were mowed down.

“They were flung about 60 meters ... Paramedics examined them and found that they both tragically died due to the severe injuries they sustained.”

The only way this story could improve would be if they lost the key.
 
I wonder if he was coming down the hill before the Alkmaar Garage rest stop the Cops love to speed trap their.
The whole road has so many side roads, dirt roads being a farming and rural area so many obstacles, down the years so many
killed between the Sappi Mill and bypass road to Nelspruit.

Wouldn't be too impossible I reckon to get very close to it. Maybe 175 or so.

I say this because I have done a traffic department verified 154km/h in the 1.4 version and it has gone faster than that, many many years ago.

Why couldn't the car stop or avoid them? We all know these modern cars are designed so fantastically that they can stop in very short distances or easily swerve at speed and that's why the speed limit needs to be raised to 200km/h, right?

No. This is how they drive up there. He only happened to get caught in his Indian Sports Car which probably gets a wash and a polish and a parking spot outside the courthouse ready to hit the killing fields again

I know many people who can afford those cars can't handle the power, but let's assume for a moment he could handle the performance. If he can handle that performance well, he's much less of a risk than most drivers on the road throughout South Africa. But let's not get technical

Maybe the driver didn't see them at all? Why didn't they wait for the car to pass?
Did the driver even attempt to stop? This has nothing to do with speed.

2. No, I am completely against any stupid arbitrary subjective speed limit. There shouldn't be a limit, maybe only a suggested "safe" speed for certain roads like mountain passes.

So what punishment should there be for people who then drive above what they are capable off and due to their actions kill someone else?

How must I leave a shopping centre parking lot if people are going to come along at 200km/h in what was a good and safe 60km/h road previously?

Recklessly/accidentally killing another person will still be the same culpable homicide.
You have no evidence to suggest people will speed recklessly without a speed limit anymore than what they currently do. Most normal people will still drive at a speed that they consider safe.

Agree. Speed doesn't kill. Unsafe application of speed does however. Watch this video of some insane speeds on the Autobahn. The road is good and the people in the left lane behave. The driver behaves as well. No tailgating and people move over once there is a gap to let him pass. An added bonus is the HUD to show just how fast the cars are travelling in the left lane.
