Yes, I have done that.

But I was also aware of the danger I put other drivers in and I am not one of the idiots that believes my car will protect me in the event of an accident that exceeds 65 km/h.

I, for one, pity the driver. I remember back in the day, when I bought a brand new Corsa 1.6. I really wanted to see how fast it could go, so I took it on a quiet road and went for it. It took a while, but I got up to 180km/h. I felt like such a badass though:) Luckily no cops, but they probably would've just laughed at me.

It's the same thing as when "responsible" gun owners make the news.

The few times I have been in a car doing that sort of speed on public roads the driver always did a "check run" first to check for accidents or cops, then looped around and did the same stretch in reverse while putting the hammer down.

Not judging him for wanting to open the taps up, judging him for being bloody stupid by not scouting the terrain ahead first.

Surely you wouldn't hit 231 in reverse though.
