Drivers face hefty fine for texting while driving

So the majority of women in CT will be without cellphones in the coming months.

I struggle to think of a more idiotic thing to do than texting while driving.
 
Good initiative. Fine the crap out of them. Make them pay the fine before they get their phone back also.
 
How do they tell the difference if you're using your cellphone as an mp3 player or if you're sending an sms?

If you're fiddling with it, it's a fine anyway. The phone should not be in your hand when the engine is running.

Sapa has issued a correction - the fine is actually R500 - not R5,000. Though I'm all for the latter.
 
and in other news...drunk driving = R3000....
Imagine driving drunk and texting? take your phone and the bottle?
 
Will the driver at least be allowed to remove the sim card from the phone?

If so, we're going to see a huge re-emergence of the 3310s and 3330s as "car phones".
 
This is awsome!! I probably spend 20 minutes a day more in traffic than I should due to people engaged with their phones on the roads slowing everybody down.

As far as I know it was said they would be allowed to in an article a while back.

If you're using a hands-free kit then why are you fiddling with the phone? If you really have to fiddle with it then pull over.
