Drivers' licence renewals: Queuing for nothing

In my experience, it's the eye testing queue that is the bottleneck. Usually because either one of the 2 machines is broken, or because one of the eye machine operators is sick or on holiday.

Now, in a country that is "striving" to create employment ...

I've been to the traffic department (Green Point) alot and I've never seen any of the machines broken... that is however, just that traffic department.

I went to Hill Star once... those were also working.

Think back on this one...

When they proposed this system of renewable card licences, what were the benefits of the system? How did they sell this system to us?

Then, try to see whether any of these benefits have actually happened.

Then, try to find out what the system's cost us so far, in terms of money and manpower and lost work hours.

And then ask yourself whether it's worth it :-)

Go dig up who owns the company that introduced the new ID drivers license... Then go take a sip of brandy before you gasp reading the words "Shabir Shaik".

With that knowledge, re-formulate your reasons why the ID card was introduced.

As a business owner I mus go waste my time with this ****. pisses me off.

Atleast you get the chance to replace that ugly picture of yours with a better looking one ;)

I went to renew my license on Friday. Went to the traffic station thing at Marlboro. I thought it would be a breeze. Boy o boy was I wrong. Turns out that there were only a few people in on the day, as many of the people who were supposed to come in decided that they would take the friday off and make their long weekend, extra long. The longest queque was the one for payment. sat in that thing for like 2 hours. Luckily I befriended someone who stuck with me in the queue. Without the support I would have given up and left when I saw the queue.

While on this topic, i need to go renew my licence next week. So what do i need to bring with me besides a camp chair :D ??

some license testing stations have outsourced some of the requirements to other approved eye doctors in the area. Find out if you have one of those available in your area. You can do everything at the eye doctors including filling out forms and stuff and then all you have to do at the license station is hand in forms and collect the license.

I recently renewed my drivers license at the local traffic department. It was quick and painless and look around 40min.

I do not work near my home town though, so I had to take half a day off. Disc renewel coming this month so I'll have to loose more work hours. I agree with the sentiment.. "Surely there must be a better way?"

I dont ever remember having a say in whether we wanted this or not. As far as I remember they decided and we just do as we are told.

Also as far as I know Sbair Shaik owns the company that makes the cards.

I love Green Point!

Had one month left on my motorcycle learners licence and they fit me in for the drivers test!

And I got my licence. :)
