Driving licence card printer broken again

Yup first mistake people make, never fight with the traffic cop, hence why in all 3 times I have been pulled over I've never been fined and I honestly should've been for all 3 times.

Oh I've fought with a traffic cop once... but then he was threatening to arrest me for drink driving when I blew 0.02 on his breathalyser.

Oh without a doubt, if its a pain in the arse to get to the public prosecutor then that changes the equation.

For me, the regional magistrates court is over the road from the shop I go to regularly, so on a shopping trip, I just popped over to the Public prosecutor.
I don't even want to think how long it would take me to figure out where to go... then there's the issue of driving to and parking in a dodgy part of town.... ugh...

Strange I've never needed the licensing department to tell me my eyesight is changing. Going to the optometrist does that, also as stated they never had this requirement before, the eyesight thing is just an "excuse"
You don't. But you should care if half the people driving in the opposite direction to you can't see for jack.

Over 40 000 fines issued? Any actual judgements out of that? Has anyone gone to court or did the people just pay them or get them squashed?
fact ==>> 40k+ fines issused.
court case against the fines ==> no source available, I guess none.
pay fines? ==> some paid and some don't pay I guess.

Ok so you're telling me that in the 5 years of the validity of the card you can't have eye issues? That your eyes only give issues every 5 years that coincide with your license renewal? Dude wtf, your eyes should be examined at least every 2 years.

That is a fightable offense :)

Yeah he was a fscking retard and looking for a bribe, and wasn't happy when I wasn't falling for his shyte.

He actually followed me almost all the way home obviously trying to catch me breaking the road rules... It was actually a shyte load of fun to disappoint him, and also make him drive around the block 3 times before he realised I was playing him and he gave up

Nice, kept him on his toes

Eyesight changing is a valid reason to confirm you should still be allowed to drive. Whether it's a 'money making scheme' or not is another discussion.
Before the new cards, I could drive with or without glasses, nobody cared that I could or couldn't see.
By all means rework the system to enforce that I have to have an eye test at my optometrist every X years. No problem. I fully understand and agree with this idea.

Then I can carry that eye test result around with me even. Or better yet just put it in a central database somewhere to be checked when I'm stopped so I don't need to carry it.

There is no need for a whole new bloody card, or to make me stand in line for hours at the traffic department.

That would have been the best way to do it... a basic system that requires an official optometrist to submit an eye test that is valid for 5 years to a database linked to your ID/License No...

100%. The rest of the details on the card, like birthdate, ID number etc. are pretty much immutable. Why the hell should we print a new card for that stuff?!?

Just require mandatory 3rd party insurance. Insurance can then give you discounts on premium when you get your eyes checked. If no insurance company wants to insure you, no driving. Heck in the law, just require that the insurance company is required to check that the person is able to drive every 5 years.

There goes all the need for expiring licences.

If I were in charge, I would have the same for cars. No yearly registrations. But insurance is required to assess roadworthiness of vehicle every 2 years.

Shabby needs to fund his golf rounds you know :P oh and his constant medical attention for that terminal illness called freedom.

Whataboutisms don't solve issues.
It's not practical to update licenses at a shorter cadence.

Agree.

Maybe, but I don't need a license department to tell me to go get them checked out but rather the fact that I can't see would motivate me.

I'd trust my optometrist to keep that data safe before this government, but that's another discussion lol.

Yeah now you're getting into technicalities, but the basic theory is sound... a central system that registers a valid eyetest+result against your ID Number/license number is all that was ever needed.
