Drop in Lithium battery replacement for alarm system

So as I'm sure you guys know, load shedding hits the standard 12v 7Ah lead-acid batteries that you normally use with an alarm system or gate motor pretty hard. I'm going through one battery every 3 months at this stage. I've recently started reading about a drop-in lithium ion replacement that works just as well (apparently) and doesn't require any special charger replacement. This is the one I've got my eye on:


Does anyone have any experience with replacing their alarm battery with a lithium ion equivalent? Any good?
I've had the same issue and then replaced with the blue nova a few months ago and it has been stellar. Since also replaced my gate motor battery with it when it needed a replacement. Only thing to consider is that the terminals are a bit wider than normal so you need to buy an adapter or fit new clasps

Or just use a big enough screwdriver to widen them.
 
So far about 70% answered, so i am hopeful :)
Received what I described as an asinine response when I responded to their "rate our service" request.

Came across a Builders-type website livecopper that was actually cheaper than TA (the Nova was R850) and matched TA's delivery charge of free for over R450. Unfortunately also no stock but were kind enough to give an estimated four to six weeks before they receive new supplies, something that TA were apparently unable to do.
 
Knock yourself out.. For one it will depend on how much wider it needs to be and then to still make proper contact

In parallel to give me theoretical 12v 14ah battery? This is to replace my alarm battery. Problem is 1x 7ah just makes it for stage 4 load shedding (when it ran for full 2h30m battery didn't last). It survived a 2h15m period though.

I currently have it installed this way. But don't want mess up the batteries.

All assistance will be appreciated.

Problem is the lead acid isn’t supposed to go under 50% battery.

So the moment it did it the first time it was buggered already and never fully recovered and would get worse subsequently.

The lithium battery doesn’t have this problem and therefore the small size should be just fine to get the job done.

A far better solution is to just connect the plug of your alarm transformer to your inverter/power trolley and forget about it.

I checked and the charger is 0.5A directly from the alarm panel. The battery specs allow that mah charging. My worry was combining the the 2 different brand of lithium batteries

Dont have one of those. I'm not bothered so much about other items being online. Internet stays on, mobile device stays on, garage door stays on and Alarm (mainly for insurance purposes) stays on too.

I replaced our alarms with lithium after stage 6 as it broke the lead acid, will keep you posted when we have stage 6 again.
 
I wonder if IDS can also set ampere settings charging
Apparently not. I was at their local dealer office the other day, but the oke didn't seam to convinced.

I put a BlueNova LiFePO4 8ah battery in my alarm box, but that is not charging fully from the alarm system.

I asked if I could add in a separate inline charger, and they could not answer me...

On the IDS control panel we don't have option to change the battery changing current, only the battery will detect how much it needed.
 
My 12V 8ah Gel lasted about 2.5 years of loadshedding. Not bad since we also had frequent multi-day power outages. Those 7ah are really cheap LA batteries and are only there to provide an occasional backup for a few hours.

I also set my Paradox to charge at 850ma via the keypad. It's easy enough if you have the installer code and download the programming manual. You just enter the code for the charging setting and then change the specific bit to 1 or 0.
There is not such thing as an 8Amp gel battery ... cut it open and you will see its just a normal AGM battery. They charge you double the price and more than for a 9Ahr AGM battery. This is just Chinese gimig market blinding. The success you have has to do with the higher charge rate and whether you use a 7Ahr or 18 or even 100Ahr wont make a difference if the charge rate is not sufficient for what you use during load shedding compared to what you get back during hours with grid. The 6.4 sherlo charge at 1.5A , the reason why it works and not because of the 18Ahr battery. The panel only uses max 600mAhr. You then use 1.5A during load shedding which needs to be replaced within 5 hours before the next fail... if you do the the maths. Panel chargers are regulated so you only get the full 350mA while the battery is low and as the voltage increase this drops down to 150mA long before fully charged. This is why the problem exists ...
 
ids here. load shedding killed my lead-acid. exploring lithium because tired of replacing lead-acid. If the ids battery connector charge current is rubbish, any possibility of replacing transformer that sits between ac and ids, with a ic that can a) charge lithium battery safely (max current battery can take) while on ac and also provide ids with required dc to operate, and b) switch over to battery when ac dies, and do all this while keeping lithium battery safe (care not to over charge or discharge).

can all lithium batteries can deep discharge safely? Or are all lithium batteries not equal? from what I understand safe deep discharge allows smaller Ah to suffice, and the high number of cycles for lithium means it will last way longer than lead-acid?

I also want to replace alarm/gate with lithium but I'm a bit scared since lithium needs care to use safely. I do not want a fire hazard in my house.
 
I enquired from BlueNova about replacing my alarm battery with one of their 8ah batteries. They confirmed it works. This was before i installed my solar.

Also replaced my 4 swing gate centurion motors with 2 of the BN batteries. Works a treat. Even with stage 6.
