Drop in Lithium battery replacement for alarm system

is it a drop-in replacement for gate motor? Does gate motor charge with enough current to fully charge bat between load shed slots? Or would I have the same prob as with ids alarm sys? (Where I cannot just drop-in replace since charge current too small)
checked my gate motor manual, says battery charger is "2A @ 14.2V (charging voltage 13.76V)"
Should be good for drop-in replacement?

I put them in a month ago and they have worked flawlessly so they must be charging and discharging correctly. The gates have DC motors that can run without batteries so the inverter must have a decent current output

thanks for the info, I'm going to get one and drop-in replace gate motor battery with it.

Lithium takes charge at a far faster rate than lead acid... Hence the better recharge time... In addition you can have a deeper depth of discharge without damaging the battery, so they are just better all round
 
Just got an MG5050 alarm system installed. Forbatt 8AH 12v lead acid gel battery.
Installer told me it should last 4 hours.

How easy is it to upgrade to something lithium ?
 
The standalone lithium replacement batteries are the same size and have the bms built in... They are a direct replacement... Open the alarm box... Pull the spade connectors off the old battery, put in the new battery and put the spade connectors back on... Its a 5 min job at most

Make sure your installer turned on the faster charger option. That panel by default only charges at 350mah but has a second option that turns it up to 700mah if the option is enabled. Location 700 option 2 should be enabled.

Doesn't help with stage 4 upwards. It just can't recharge fast enough. I have an Mg5050 as well.

Replaced my battery twice in the past year and with the latest round just decided to go lithium.
 
I need to replace my garage motor battery, it is a 24v 3.5ah battery like below:

I don't find a lithium alternative in this voltage and size. Has anyone perhaps come across one?

I concur. They might take long to charge fully, but they will also work for much longer.
 
Yeah the problem with electroman is they'll argue with you and say these are normal batteries and will fit in everything.
Geewiz was like oh right our mistake you'll need these converters.
If you talking about the connectors, Geewiz actually supplied me with a pair when I bought the recent vestwood lithuim.

Yeah, I also got a surprise when I was busy installing the battery and the old lead didnt fit, quick unplug, strip and crimp on, back in business.

Yup the connectors, there are F1 and F2 and most UPS use the larger ones while alarms use the smaller ones.

Most of the IDS series of panels do not work well with a drop-in Lithium-ion. The charger won't start

A work-around is to place a 1 watt 680 ohm resistor across the battery terminals. Then it works

A larger gate (> 450kg) motor might have trouble starting, as the initial current to overcome the gate's intertia exceeds the BMS current limit. The larger Centurion motors and ET1000 are like this

Way better. My electric fence has a 8ah Blue Nova and has not been impacted by LS at all. Gemini gate motor has a the 11ah Blue Nova and still going strong.

Only thing that has run flat is my UPS with 2 x 8ah Blue Novas when there were 2 x 4 hour loadsheddings after each other on Stage 6, but once it can charge enough due to 2 hour loadsheddings, it could then handle the next 4 hours easily, and this isn't the first time it has run flat (previous Stage 6 and area outages) and the batteries are still good, compared to the lead acid ones that did not like running flat at all and degraded quickly.
 
Simply. If your device can charge at 1.7amp or more then lithium is a suitable drop in replacement. But since your device has a 1.7amp or more charge rate, lithium is not necessary as the standard lead acid battery will do just as well for less cost. Unless the load causes your battery to drop below 50% capacity during load shedding.

If your load is more than 1.7amp then unfortuantely your 1.7amp charger will not even be able to recharge a lithium battery in 4 hours before the next bout of load shedding.

Alarm systems and cctv battery backup systems works at 0.5 to 0.8 amp charge rates, so dropping in a lithium replacement is just a waste of money.

No. What you get with lithium is the ability to accept a higher charge rate, thus to recharge quicker. It won't recharge quicker though if you are using the same charger on the device that is currently charging the lead acid battery. It's common sense - if the charger is only 1A, it can only recharge 1A per hour regardless of the battery type you have.

If you use 2A during a 2 hour load shedding , then you can recharge your battery within 2 hours and be ready for the next loadshedding bout only if your charger capacity is 1A.

However if you drop in a lithium battery and now you can discharge to 80% capacity you now need to recharge 3A within the next 4 hours - still doable with a 1A charger, not with a 0.5A or 0.8A charger.

The trick is to match your load and battery capacity , to that which can be replaced in 4 hours.

Therefore: if you have a 0.8A charger, and a load of 1.6A, keeping in mind the 50% Depth Of Discharge limit for a lead acid battery, you should be comfortable with 2 hours of load shedding.
