DStv adding Disney Plus without permission

We have solved the issue. My mother logged into Disney's site. She saw on her profile, in the help section, a call option for Disney. They put her though to somebody that dealt exclusively with Dstv and they got it removed. Oddly soon afterwards she then got an email from Dstv inviting her take part in the free, 3 month Disney trial through Dstv.

If this happens to anybody else where you can't remove Disney from Dstv billing section through the Dstv site, yourself. Don't bother calling Dstv they extremely unhelpful. You need to contact Disney.

I wasn't going to say anything because they did sort it, until they did it again...

A few days ago, I received an sms from disney+, stating that my phone number is linked to an account there. The only thing I could think of is dstv. I log into my dstv account and there it is, disney+ was linked to my account.

I contact the chatbot, then get transferred to someone. After giving my details, they had the cheek of asking me if the sales department can call me to try and sell more things, while they look at my account.

Then they said, I added it to my account, when I said I didn't add it, asking who added it, they couldn't answer, the system doesn't show.

They also said they cannot remove it from my account, I first have to wait for the next billing cycle when the account is active. I said well then I might have to pay for it. Then they said, well then you have to write an affidavit so that they can investigate.

I then said, well another reason to cancel dstv, then suddenly they escalated and then they could get it removed and give me a reference number. But before that it was impossible.

Well, fast forward to today, I see I received another SMS, my account was linked again yesterday. Wow. I guess I will have to cancel DSTV now :-|

Seeing a few reports on Twitter/X about this today. Seems you are not alone.

When they did this to me, it was after a free trial period of Disney+.

Another time DStv upgraded me after I got a free awards 1 month package upgrade. (I later cancelled the awards program.)

In both cases, in the end I still lost a few Rands. Unbelievable.

I finally managed to "opt out" as they refer to it (not "cancel" as such).

There are various Rewards things to click on, but only at the bottom of the page for "What it is" is the possibility to opt out shown.

Have done what I can to hopefully not be auto bolted on to this Disney+ scam.

If they unilaterally add it, I'll definitely cancel the whole sub., end of this month.

EDIT - apparently hurt their feelings on top of it (screenshot of auto email received thereafter).

Keep an eye on that, if membership still there by say Wed. / Thurs. then you may have to take my route - cancellation via a supervisor / manager only worked for me. And not via chat, can only get one via the Call Centre. Maybe

What's so st00pid is that MC don't click that peeps will constantly discuss these things online, they're just endlessly shooting themselves in the foot with any dishonesty.

Foolish company

best thing i ever did was to tell these DSTV m0r0ns to "put one thumb up their bum and the other thumb in their mouth and to rotate those every 5 minutes"
