DStv and TopTV battle?

TopTV CEO says that MultiChoice (and hence DStv) is acting anti-competitive, and that they may take the matter further
 
As an example Mbalo said that DStv launched a R99 package, which competes directly against TopTV’s entry level service, at exactly the same time as TopTV’s entrance into the market.

God help Top TV, this idiot thinks launching a competing product = anti-competitive behaviour? Sure the sport thing can be construed as anti-competitive, but we know Top TV isn't pursuing that because they would not be able to pay for it even if DSTV were forced to share.
Fished off the bottom of the barrel this one is.
 
DSTV acting in a monopolistic manner? Surprise, Surprise! :p

I think they co-authored the book on how to be a monopoly with Telkom! :D

So DSTV launched a R99 package - isnt that what competition is all about. Seems TopTV is asking for some time to be monopoly themselves. And lets be honest, its not like TopTV would not have acted like a monopoly if given the chance. they knew what they were getting into when they signed up for this.

That exactly what I thought as well , the irony !! LOL. This is like Mweb complaining that Telkom offers uncap as well

Hmm sadly yes.But i do think they are able to pay for sport.Ifaik there was a 1billion rand loan they didn't use.All toptv needs is sport in where SA teams compete.They can win the sport battle by studying the UK case of Sky sports and leave the R99 bitching.

Multichoice has a monopoly on sport. Once toptv is allowed to get some of that sport we will see some great competition.

There was another provider, I think it was called AstraSat but I remember seeing a dish and viewing it at a friends house, long long time ago.

They're more likely to show local football than Rugby which is a better move anyway. Premium Rugby is premium priced not even the SABC is able to get that.

I remember that. It was SABC's satellite service. I would hardly call that competition.
 
Top TV sounding like whiny little kids.

EDIT: The above is wrt to the R99 package thing. Regarding the sports, they have a point

sport rights are flipping expensive and is DSTV's stronghold. They should rather compete in some other area, and use that money to secure some premium channels.

Anyway we've had both DSTV compact and top tv and top tv is much better IMHO

Bwahahahahahaha! Seriously?! Do you call that anti-competitive? That IS the definition of competition. What a chop.

TopTV currently has around 320,000 decoders in the market, but with only 140,000 to 150,000 paying subscribers.

Hmmmhh.. why is that??? Is it maybe because 170 000 subscribers who bought TopTV decoders found that the content SUCKED so much that they cancelled their contracts (and even went back to multichoice)? (or do they have some free package that I don't know about? :erm: )

Anyways... the signs are clear as daylight: trying to add porn channels, moaning about "anti-competitive" behavior, moaning about this and that, bad customer support, having no subscribers... this company is going DOWN. I wonder if they will be around this time next year....
