DSTV Aspect Ratio / Resolution

Has anyone noticed that the aspect ratio and/or resolution on DSTV has changed ?

As I watched soccer on SS3 on my standard 4:3 Akai Television set, i noticed that the players looked a bit squashed.

As I sit and write this I am tuned to National Geographic channel watching 'secret bible' and I notice that the National Geographic logo is clipped at the top of the screen such that I can only read 'Geographic' and the Yellow square box is clearly cut.

I tried once playing around the menus and once i adjust successfully from a default 16:9 ratio to 4:3. S

Since Saturday even though I have selected 4:3, the image remains the same.

I know I am not missing much but there is a part of me that gets me agitated that I cannot change this. It is almost as though I am forced to buy the 16:9 sets which in my opinion is a little pre-mature given the marketing hype regarding 'HD-ready' sets.

I wish I could adjust the aspect ratio / resolution without having to change my TV set.

I guess the time has come for a new set :(

you are lucky if you get ANY resolution .. try watching Hallmark .. 320x288 Hi-Def Power!
 
My LG LCD is set to Auto resolution, so for must part the picture only fills portion of the screen (as it should) ... lately when I switch to some channels, I get full screen picture, BUT, the proportions are definitely not right ... all the chicks suddenly gained a couple of kg's :D ... So they are broadcasting in 16:9, but the actual image aspect ratio is still out of whack (like when you set it to 16:9 when you know it is a normal image coming in)
 
SIne I only got LCD recently I've been playing around a lot with different aspect ratio's. Have yet to find anything on DSTV in something other than 4:3. Some movies are obviously made in 16:9 but since they are broadcast in 4:3, I still get the black bands at the top and bottom - Can tell that is the way it is broadcast 'cos you get the MNet logo in the black stuff. Only way around it seems to be to play around with the zoom function on my TV, but then it seems to lose a bit of quality (like DSTV quality could be worse) - oh and it cuts the MNet logo off (that's the upside)
 
Yes i have noticed this too, also been getting really low res images, with colour shades degrading into clear definitions, reminds me of old low res web graphics.
