This thread is for those that have already cancelled DSTV subscriptions in favour of TOPTV.

To get a rough idea of how many people jumped ship..

I will downgrade to Easyview at the end of the month, when the Super14 ends.

Will try to get a TopTV decoder today, or as early as possible.

I was disconnected because I was one day late with payment. I have not reconnected and have no plans to do so. Multichoice sent sms saying pay xx and get reconnected immediately. I'm ignoring those sms Now they send they legal letter of demand for R300 (R200 of which is interest and legal fees no doubt) asking to avoid a very expensive court outing.
Multichoice's own incompetence lost them a long time customer.

Already bought myself a TopTV decoder. Last month of DSTV for me. Hello TopTV!

Be very clear and concise about the cancellation of your DSTV contract.

Remember, if you read the contract that you signed, the onus is up to you to cancel the contract.

Multichoice can happliy assume that you still want the contract to continue forever, and have worded it such that they don't even have to provide the service, but will still charge you for every month that you have not told them you have cancelled.

Now, stop dilly-dallying about and phone Multichoice and inform them that you are canceling your contract. Then phone them the next day to confirm that the contract is in fact canceled, and then on last day of the month again, because somehow their debit order system has the power to automatically renew contracts.

My services were supsend, on March 10, and afterwards i started mobilising for ODM :). then to my suprise on the same Month my services were re-activated without my knowledge and the sad thing was that "I had already packed my HD PVR +DSD 1110 and ready for a sale...now that i have the buyer i went to MC Regional to settle the arrears of R215 I viewed from March 1-10 (R215) I was shocked but anyway since i sold the equipment, i wanted to settle the amount, but to my surpise the Service Centre told me i have to Pay the Subscription as of March 20-31 the whole month of April, and 4 days of May... and I asked how possible could that be...and they said my services were re-activated up to date, and to my suprise my HD PVR had been kept in it box. knowing that I had the E16 message the last time i checked my screen :)

So Yes: Im one of those who are no longer MC but a TopTv Devotee :)

Does anybody know how switching subscriptions work?

I've got the EASYVIEW package and would like to upgrade to the FULL package just for the last bit of the Super14.
After the rugby I want to go back to EASYVIEW again.

1. If I phone them and upgrade to FULL do they work out the price pro-rata?
2. After a while if I decide to go back to EASYVIEW, can I just phone them and downgrade?(not cancel)
3. Is there a cost involved in doing this?

I know I can phone them and ask these questions, but I get frustrated when on hold for longer than 7 minutes.

@ quiksilver - I think that you need to stay on a package for a minimum of 14 days at a time and you are billed prorata - I don't think you can change up for one day and then back the next day and so on.

Does your Satellite need to be re-orientated for Top TV? I'm in an apartment and we use a shared satellite :( Otherwise I will just be downgrading to one of DSTV's smaller packages...

It needs to be re-positioned. Either you downgrade or you put up your own dish.

I can never go backwards. Once you go HD sport, there is NO going back.

Personally I think DSTV should differentiate their HD offering and premium offering. I am paying the same price as someone who gets HD - surely if I use the premium package minus the HD there should be some sort of discount? I am sure that the HD forms a large slice of their broadcasting costs.

Actually you have to view it from the other direction in that the Premium package costs x amount and the HD is a free added bonus.
