DStv competitors set broadcast deadlines

Interesting,

But they need to come to the party now with Channel offerings and pricing...
I'm not interested in any of them unless their offering is better then MC in terms of entertainment content because they very definitely won't be able to match SuperSport content at this point in time.

Wonder which encryption they going to use and which bird.

Another dish pointing to another satellite would mean a high installation cost.

All good and well, but I personally only need DSTV for Supersport which is probably in the top 10 worldwide. But they sure make us pay for it.

Dear Competitors,

Give me a "pick your channels" package and you have a subscriber for life.

Sincerely,

AntiThesis

Anti -

I agree whole heartedly. The reasons for DSTV not doing it is they are offering 80+ channels and only 20 or so are worthwile. Smoke and mirrors.

It still cost them the same to broadcast the channels, thus we have to take all or nothing.

Pay per view will only be an option when internet tv is here, so I think we still have a wait on our hands.

I thought ODM was going to be an IPTV offering.

What happened to all that talk?

It would be nice if they could post updates on their website too.
Could get to their contacts page, but it seems they don't answer email in any case.

I want everything except the sports channels.

Should be much cheaper since sport is premium content that costs a fortune to get the rights to broadcast.

Wonder if MC will considers selling Supersport to the other companies... doubt it though, its the reason many subscribers have DSTV in the first place

Who cares about ODM or DStv for that matter when you can watch all your TV Programs in HD?

It's only the guys who like to watch Rugby, Cricket and Soccer that need to pay a half a grand every month for that channel.

and as for waiting a year to watch a certain movie in Standard Definition Quality, at a specific time? no thanx!

i on the other hand only want the sport, get all my other content in 720p using torrents and newsservers....

I'd really like to see a channel listing come up soon and whether or not we will have the option of HD and PVR right off the bat.

Upon launch the company will “have a similar DTH offering to MultiChoice” in that subscribers will require a set top box and a satellite dish to receive the broadcast signal;...

Why?

More vendor lock in & expenses.

Can't we lobby for a sports only package from these operators?

Why?

DSTV already have us "locked in" as their decoder is also bonded to them. Hopefully ODM will use a more "generic" approach, that will enable the public to buy their decoder of choice, and switch to whomever we choose, without losing that investment.

Incoming pay-TV operator Super5Media has confirmed that their broadcast services must commence in February 2010. This is to meet the regulations provided by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) in the company’s broadcast licence agreement

When last did anyone ever listen to ICASA - oh sorry, this is not Telkom.
