DStv decoder comparison: Explora vs HD Single View

What kind of HD Single view decoder is this? All the options they have as NO, I can do on my HD decoder.
MC are grimey if the removed all those features on the current HD Single View to bump up the Explora's sales! :wtf:

Edit: Well except remote recording, and that also shouldn't count on the Explora as that needs a separate Wifi dongle!

Yes. This article is pure unadulterated horse manure.

I can do all that stuff with my HD decoder which I've had for over 5 years.

Are they getting a little desperate to sell their Explorer, then? It certainly comes across that way.

You and purpleonlineadmin have old HDPVRs..

There is a bog standard HD Decoder that costs like R500 now, with no PVR functionality at all.

^ This.

The Exploda is a bad piece of hw. You press 3 buttons on the remote, then have to wait for 5 seconds for it to react. And slow motion is not actually working.
Was considering another one to replace the old 4 tuner HDPVR, but just gonna leave it as is.

So there's nothing in between the Explora and the functionless HD decoder? That was what I understood.

There has never been anything between the PVR(now called the Xplorer) and the "functionless" Single View decoder as you call it.

Lol, what would you want offered in between the two? There's not much functionality that could be taken away from the Explora that would provide a decent cost saving I would think.

Something which records, pause/rewind etc., but without the internet capability of the Explora. More or less what I have now.

You do know that your HDPVR has internet capability, but the firmware was never enabled for it in this country.

Getting rid of the "network" capability, but decrease the cost of the Xplora by about oh, R10 or R15.... if that.

If you haven't figured it out, the difference in functionality is largely a result of the one having local storage (1TB HD), while the other has no storage (for content).

But Multichoice evil! Nasty! RipOff!...

Thought you knew this?

Quick question, can i remove the 2TB HDD and use it as storage on the PC? If yes, point me to a guide please.

Ever since we got the HD Decoder setup, it now causes our DSL line to lose sync at 18:00 > everyday [this is the time it is switched on]. It is weird and annoying. Lazy to figure it out right now, any ideas welcome. :) It does work great with a single bouquet loaded up apart from above issue. The DSL line is in another part of the home with an unused extension where the decoder is.

Don't forget for the Explora you need the new "Smart LNB" which costs +/- R500
Also you may need the WiFi adapter for and additional +/- R400

Still given how useful / convenient the PVR function is, hopefully Multichoice will offer a cheaper PVR decoder with smaller memory than the 1TB which is on the Explora. Maybe 500GB or 250GB.

Speaking under correction, there isn't much of a saving when going smaller than 1TB so it would be pointless I would think.

e.g. R103 difference between a 500gb and 1TB hdd of the same brand (Toshiba).
R635 500GB HDD http://www.takealot.com/toshiba-hard-drive-desktop-3-5-inch-500gb/PLID32712213
R738 1TB HDD http://www.takealot.com/toshiba-hard-drive-desktop-3-5-inch-1tb/PLID32712215

Assuming they have 3.5" HDDs in the Explora...
