DSTv EasyView or TopTV?

I currently have an MNET subscription, but in my area, the signal quality is very poor. The SABC and eTV channels are not much better either.

I want to move to satellite reception, but I am confused with all the options. I want to be able to receive the SABC and eTV channels with MNET via the satellite, and have my existing MNET decoder decode the MNET signal.

The DSTv EasyView package offers everything I need, except MNET, but so does TopTV as well.

My questions now are:

  1. With either EasyView or TopTV, can I still use my existing MNET decoder to decode the MNET signal received via the dish
  2. If I buy the retail box of either EasyView or TopTV, does it include the dish?

Thanks :)

Last I checked with Multichoice, you'd need to pay for the full package (''Premium'' @ R529) to get M-Net via the dish, so the only way to get extra channels on cheaper packages (''EasyView, Select'') & have M-Net is to keep paying for M-Net separately on it's own decoder.

With the introduction of TopTV & their cheaper pricing, seems Multichoice were forced into selling the box, dish & 1 point installation within a limited k/metre radius (like TopTV provides) for about 1/2 of what they were retailing them for even 6 - 8 months ago, so both should still include these things. Check up with either the retailers, or Multichoice on (011) 289-2222.

You can't 'buy the retail box of EasyView' - that's a package you can choose once purchased, from Multichoice, just like any of the others.

1: Nope- you cannot connect your analogue mnet decoder to a satellite dish (IF you want mnet digitally, you will need to get dstv- and take the full package @ 529 p/m-ripoff if u ask me)
2: Yes, you get a dish in both kits. When you buy the kit, you will only receive the decoder, but the installer will bring your dish when installing. (And like Baycityroller said- its a dstv kit, not an easyview kit, as that is a package :) )

Thanks guys.

So to sum up: there is no way to use my existing (analogue) MNet subscription/decoder to decode the digital MNet signal, unless I get the full (way too expensive) DSTv package.

I was hoping the signal path would be something like this: satellite -> dish -> receiver -> MNet decoder -> TV (via coaxial cable)

I can't believe MultiChoice can not bring out a package like EasyView, but with MNet included as well. Surely they would sell quite a few of these packages, since a lot of people I know sit with the same problem than me: bad reception. We don't want all the full DSTv channels, just the SABCs, eTV and MNet.

Ah well, it seems that I am stuck with my bad reception then...

They CAN, but why? More than sufficient people pay the R500+ a month.

You could get EasyView, and solve your SABC & eTV signal issues (with a few other 'channels' thrown in), then perhaps you can adjust your Aerial to get the best M-Net signal - not having to worry about making the other channels worse? R200 odd a year for easy view.

Ok, so it is technically possible to get EasyView and still keep the arial for MNet? That could work :)

I just remembered that all analogue tv in SA is (or rather WAS) forced to go digital (and have their own decoders) in 2011, but that might be delayed. You know, 'Africa time'

''Cabinet had originally set a 1 November 2011 deadline for switching off analogue television transmissions. The International Telecommunications Union said that the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting should end on 17 June 2015.''
