Made the decision this evening .... DSTV is a goner. I'll get a Drifta for the sport and pay R39pm, that's it, they will never again get hundreds from me.
 
I've been reading these forums for some time and for the most part all I see are complaints about whatever the topic. Please prove me wrong and lets see if a group of people can actually get together and effect some change.

It shouldn't take too much to put together a facebook page to at least put a poll or petition type site together to see how many people would actually cancel, and then pick a date like someone else mentioned (1 April) and show Multichoice up for the fools they are and cancel en-masse.

PS - I agree that action like this wouldn't make any difference if there aren't significant numbers involved. Come on guys, lets put the KY away for a change!
 
It's simple business 101... they can't get any further income by increasing their customer base, to do that they would have to decrease monthly charges... what's the next best option?? Charge the present customer base more... Mr Groenewald thinks we're dumb... the 8 'new' channels were added in the last financial year, within last financial years budget... the main culprit here is greed... the shareholder want more... and the CEO obliges them, else his job is on the line... Western Economics 101!

If 1000 people terminate their DSTV subscriptions over this, DSTV really don't care... let's say DSTV had 250000 paying subscribers:

R30 x 250000 = R7.5 million
R559 x 1000 = R 0.59 million

So why on earth would DSTV give 2 hoots if 1000 people left... they still making about 7 million more... for doing what? Nothing, but the same thing the did last year... I think they are lining the coffers for the sports rights bid!

I would gladly kick MC in the nuts but there is no alternative - just 2 things that stand in the way

1) these r the channels I like to watch & record on my PVR - DISC / UNICH / SERIE / DISCW / BBCK / BBCE / SONY / HIST / CRIME / NAGEO / NGWILD / ANIMP / VH1 / Sport - so if u know of another provider that has these channels - cheaper PLEASE let me know!

2) I looked into getting a media player and downloading my own entertainment which IMHO is the future!! getting the media player and a couple of Tb Hdd is not a problem getting the content I want is! Now don't go raving on about how easy it is to download - if u don't have ADSL uncapped / unshape / offshore servers / bit torrents / un limited bandwidth etc. then it's pretty damn impossible specially if yr not IT savvy, my pathetic 7.2Mbs wireless connection can barely download a youtube video never mind a full series of TOPGEAR!! and @ R200/500Mb data - forget it!!

I got R560/m to burn so WHO is going to be my CONNECTION? and NO I'm not going to install ADSL either so what alternatives r there other than dstv??
 
Why not have ADSL installed :confused: That's a very weird stance and you're shooting yourself in the foot.
 
rofl ! No ways dude ...... if you get a good install, you are likely to never have a bad experience with the actual line/service. If you choose your ISP incorrectly, then you may have issues, but these days it's easy to chop and change ;)

Just don't sign a contract with/go with Telskum as your ISP and you are already on your way.

In the past I had a 4mb line with a 1gb from Afrihost, a 1gb from Imaginet and 60gb from Webafrica (local only). But now, 4mb line and Mweb uncapped = bliss for me.

To be honest I hate Telkom(no-brainer I know)... I cancelled my home fixed line a while ago, switched to CellC 2GB data... we switched to 4mbsp ADSL in the office, used 3G VC previously(read bl00dy expensive)... even though I hate Telkom, their ADSL service just works and works well... is fast!

so u still have to have a telkom adsl line but a different ISP? so what would my R560/m get me?
 
Only R560 ...... would get you a 384 line and a 384 uncapped package from Mweb. You'd do about 50gb odd on that but 384 is slow and yucky. I pay about R900-R1000 a month total for my ISP and Telskum costs.
 
Yawn!!! With so little competition around, we may as well continue to put vaseline on and wait to get ass raped yet again.

Yeah, there are a lot of problems with Telkom ADSL, but it is still cheaper and better than ANY wireless service in SA.
