@Spiff - You have just under 1000 posts and you don't know how Telkom ADSL works. Be serious. You taking the crap....right?

Especially on this forum, but yeah, is he not the type of user where things "just plug in and work"?. There are many like this.

guys with all due respect I'm in the dark when it comes to IT stuff, just like you'll be if I gave u one of my engineering projects :) right now a 4m adsl line is way to expensive to replace dstv per se - for me anyway as I the only one using it - if I had a family then it maybe worth while. I tried to download some youtube vids on my wireless connection once  it seems mtn have a system that DELETES yr data bundle when u attempt to do this eg. I downloaded 5 music video's using a new 500Mb data bundle, all went well. the next day when I logged on my 500Mb data was GONE! :wtf: so I loaded another 500mb data bundle and once again downloaded some music vids and once again mtn stole 90% of my data bundle  so I won't be doing that again! and these flv vids were no bigger than 10mb a piece!

I would love to be able to just download my entertainment whenever I feel like it, I have a list as long as my arm of new & old tv series / movies etc. I want on my media player, over and above the dstv tv shows I mentioned earlier.

getting telkom in to setup an adsl line etc. is not a problem, it's getting the bit torrents, off shore servers, wireless routers, network between media player / pc - internet etc. that bugs me.

for now it will be easier to stick with dstv, maybe adsl will get cheaper in the future or I find someone to set it up for me. I'd rather pay him for his data time and get what I want!

Your kidding right! I guess if you call old programs and reruns quality then yes - increase the prices for the same 'quality'

Oh so true!!! Higher premiums to watch the reruns from the past year, and the years before that AGAIN. One watches a current series (new episodes) then when that is finished, they show the old episodes from way back when again? and not in order either, just a random pick? However this is South Africa, and no matter how hard they want to be like the Americans or British, they fail dismally when it comes to service, but they are oh so quick to raise prices, then think we are morons and will believe their feeble "excuses", when all it is is GREED- Typical South African "Services"
The person who "explained" the increase is due to "Cost of Business"? well, wonder where she got HER business training. It is the kind of excuse one would give a child, just in a more childlike way (it costs too much Tom, Dick or Harry)) BALONEY! Well they can have their DSTV. We have already paid for 90%+ of what we see fom day to day - 90% + REPEATS.They not getting another cent out of me.

OK, you've got me interested - please provide more details - links, etc.
Unfortunately we are not all Satellite gurus

I have a feeling the person is talking about the following provider

http://www.zap.co.ao/#/pacotes/zap-premium

What intrigues me, is these guys have a smaller customer base than Dstv, provide more channels and are considerably CHEAPER than Dstv.

The only way DSTV will drop their prices is if toptv provides a competitive service, they have a long way to go though

I have already canned my subscription. Reason, too pricey! There are other options for entertainment @ night
To those who commented on on the packages dstv offers.
1.) the channels worth watching is what makes up the subscription fee.
If you choose your 10 channels from a custom package you will pretty much pay what you pay now for the full package!.
Channels like SyFy will be large in entertainment value, but will not make a profit. Hence, not for us.

Reading this thread first thing in the morning has been the best thing for me. I will admit, MC have been screwing us blindly and we have all sat back and taken it up the vaseline chute like idiots.

If ever the status quo is to change, some drastic steps are needed. It is inspiring to read about how many people are planning or have cancelled their subscriptions. For the first time I am really considering cancelling mine too, or at least downgrading until my options get better.

I am a sports guy, through and through. So I get my pleasure from watching lots of live soccer, cricket, rugby, golf, F1, NBA, etc. So you can see why alternative options are a problem for me. My wife is into series and movies, but I'm sure i could get around that by finally getting an ADSL line and one of those HD media players and downloading from the net. I would also have to get some cbeebies, dorah, teletubbies for my daughter.

Is this practical? Probably not. But someone has to make a stand at some point. Although it's a lot, I feel like I at least get more value than the average person (reading others posts). I could continue paying, but would rather MC realised the value of their customers. At the moment they are acting like a real monopoly and need a wake up call. I have not missed a single installment in 8 years but now feel MC are straight up taking advantage of me.

I am sitting on the fence for now but will be following this closely hoping for that one post that will tip me to cancel. Would certainly support the FB page too so we can show this Big Brother who the real boss is!

31 March 2010 they posted a profit of R2,9bn. Shame they must be sad....

Crumbs, and they can't allocate a portion of that to fix the bugs in HD-PVR, including lack of subtitles (which was supported with the older DSTV decoders)?

DSTV will never stop "raping" us. As long as Supersport is connected with it this will just go on and on, thats the big drawcard for me anyway.

Lots of people would rather watch sports on SOPcast as its free. DSTV will lose subscribers because of this increase as there is no added value but there is an increase in price.

I fall under the average income earner getting closer and closer to the low end earner, with the TopTV launching i as many of you thought that's what we need some competition but alas the effect is similar to farting against thunder with no relief for the man on the street with costs still soaring and the current business models used by corporations with only one goal in mind profit, my sport watching days will be spent either watching it in a pub or catching it at a mates place.

So it makes logical sense that all of you who are canceling your DSTV are also canceling your MWEB accounts?

Surely by trading one Naspers company for another, well....i don't need to elaborate either?

If this was going to be any sort of movement, you have to boycott Naspers (MWEB + Multichoice), you cant trade one devil for another.

Wish they would use some of their income to fix the software on the HD PVR. Yestreday I had to re-boot the PVR twice because it became unresponsive.

Please explain to me who wants to watch MZANZI MAGIC & AFROMUSIC?
Certainly not me!
I hope DSTV make a huge loss due to the fact that everyone has switched over to Top TV.
I don't watch Soweto TV, I don't watch Russia Tv, I don't watch China Tv..

Why are all these channels there that i'm sure the majority of the country does not watch, scrap all those channels and use the money to give us more HD channels, wider variety of movies!

Pathetic!

Nonsensical post .......

Throwing away the DSTV sub doesn't mean we all wanna hippy boycott the corporate 'devil' as you put it. My Mweb can replace my DSTV, so instead of wasting an extra R600 odd, I now just don't
