Reading this thread first thing in the morning has been the best thing for me. I will admit, MC have been screwing us blindly and we have all sat back and taken it up the vaseline chute like idiots.

If ever the status quo is to change, some drastic steps are needed. It is inspiring to read about how many people are planning or have cancelled their subscriptions. For the first time I am really considering cancelling mine too, or at least downgrading until my options get better.

I am a sports guy, through and through. So I get my pleasure from watching lots of live soccer, cricket, rugby, golf, F1, NBA, etc. So you can see why alternative options are a problem for me. My wife is into series and movies, but I'm sure i could get around that by finally getting an ADSL line and one of those HD media players and downloading from the net. I would also have to get some cbeebies, dorah, teletubbies for my daughter.

Is this practical? Probably not. But someone has to make a stand at some point. Although it's a lot, I feel like I at least get more value than the average person (reading others posts). I could continue paying, but would rather MC realised the value of their customers. At the moment they are acting like a real monopoly and need a wake up call. I have not missed a single installment in 8 years but now feel MC are straight up taking advantage of me.

I am sitting on the fence for now but will be following this closely hoping for that one post that will tip me to cancel. Would certainly support the FB page too so we can show this Big Brother who the real boss is!

You can do it!!
I have been a loyal subscriber for 15 years but after this last price increase I decided enough is enough.Sick and tired of being ripped off and it is clearly time MC caught a wake-up.I also have daughters and a wife to consider so trust me it has not been an easy decision but I have decided to invest the R625 saving in an Openweb Uncapped account and have every intention of downloading the Internet to keep my family happy;)

multichoice is like a broken record "repeat, repeat, repeat".

What I think is that Multichoice should design a Bouqeut that taylors for the individuel, like for instance pay a set ammount and the you can choose lets say 10 channels and multichoice gives you some other channels that no-one wathces anyways........

agreed,i only need 6 channels from dstv, let all those who need the other useless channels pay for them, right now i'm paying for a service i don't need

im quite sure that most DSTV subscribers are eagerly awaiting to jump ship once TopTV offers their PVR decoder including HD content, Sport and other content… i cant wait for this!!..

MC just don't care. There's enough rich (stupid) fools out there supporting them.

I have given up on DSTV, why pay over R500 for a few hours of TV a week?
All i need is a Sports Channel and i would be happy.

Come on people! All your whingieng and moaning reminds me of the smokers and drinkers who complain about the rising prices of booze and cigarettes.

Common sense tell us that DSTv will only lower prices if you make them - mass subscription cancellations are the only thing that will work.

I would love to have a subscription, but not at the prices they charge.

Will the spam mails come to an end on Friday or increase in frequency and lameness to try and win back pissed off ex-customers such as myself?

You can, of course, watch about twenty DSTV HD channels for FREE on W7 at 36.0E. Look up by googling 'W7 satellite' and looking at Lyngsat. If you still have a DSTV dish up get it turned to look at W7 and get yourself an MPEG-4 receiver. Most dealers have these.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

They state PREMIUM(sic) is R559, but add dual view, pvr, extra view functionality to that and your siting at +-R700!!! I'm considering canceling soon, that R700 could be better of going towards the payments on my (what I plan to buy) Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 Distinctive Coupe :)

Maybe I should just stop watching sport. If it wasn't for sport, I would not be paying R6708 for TV each year!

Come to think of it, that amount is almost my sons yearly school fees!!!

Are we really being ripped off? How much are the fees for similar services in New Zealand, or Aus?

Not sure about the price in those countries but here in the US, it's really cheap. I pay $70 for the full package FiOS TV.

Sure, when you do the conversion it sounds expensive (R490) but when you consider that this includes premier viewing of pretty much all shows the moment they air (as opposed to waiting for weeks or months for them to come to SA), consider the fact that this includes premier channels like Fox, ABC, NBC, Showtime, HBO, Comedy Central, BET, SyFy, etc, factor in the fact that out of the 580 channels (granted only about 50 or 60 of those are really worth watching), 151 of those are in HD and you quickly realise that from a "bang for your buck" perspective, it's cheap as hell.

And at that price, you have the option to use multi-room PVR functionality, which means I can record 4 channels while watching a further 2.
And, should I like, I have the option to expand exponentially to as many rooms as I need, increasing these numbers to as many as I like, with the ability to record twice the amount of channels as I have rooms while still watching a different channel in each room.

R559 + R65 = R624 for everything, you don't add R65 twice

You guys are willingly paying for it, and then moaning? riiiiight......

just vote with your wallets ffs
