DStv Explora getting ShowMax

The claim is any subscription, even EasyView ...
The only way to get a decoder to work such as the Explora is with an active subscription ....
Why bother with the rigmarole if one already has a Smart TV?
Downloading requires a storage device, hence where the Explora comes in, it is a PVR .....
Streaming does not require storage ?

BUT herein lies the rub .... the same network infrastructure that currently supports SS and dstvnow streaming is being used by showmax?

Just look at all the complaints over the weekend how badly both of the above worked during the Springbok game .....

Found the MC link as to how it all works here. http://www.dstv.com/en-za/topic/how-to-use-showmax-on-your-connected-dstv-explora-20160520

Still no Roku support...

It's not going to happen until Roku officially makes their app store and devices available in South Africa, which it hasn't yet. All the Roku's available in South Africa are unofficial gray imports.

So you do need an active DSTV sub... /yawn.

* ShowMax is available on any DStv Explora connected to the internet. Monthly DStv subscription, Access Fee and separate ShowMax subscription payable. Terms and Conditions apply. ShowMax requires an internet connection of at least 2Mbps. On the DStv Explora, an uncapped connection with at least 4Mbps is recommended for the best experience

:D

Very smart move from Multichoice. I can access Showmax already from my Smart TV and Apple TV but it is nice to have it all on one device. The Smart TV app is the most cumbersome and clunky one and I try not to use it if possible. I am a DSTV premium subscriber and a Showmax subscriber so I have access to all content - and I still have a 20mbps internet line for those content I can't get there. But oh dear, where will I get all the time?

Why? Showmax isn't intended to be SA only - they even market it as a way for expats to enjoy channels such as kykNET overseas.

kykNET, in conjunction with the subscription video on demand service ShowMax, is expanding its footprint. The new kykNET International service is now live and available to South African audiences in selected countries in North America, Europe and Australasia via the ShowMax platform. With around 13 000 episodes of TV shows and movies, kykNET International launches with almost 6 000 hours of Afrikaans language programming.

Viewers in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand will be able to log on to www.showmax.com and for US$ 8.99 per month have unlimited access to classic favourites such as Molly en Wors, Song vir Katryn, Vallei van Sluiers and Plek van die Vleisvreters as well as the latest episodes of Kwela, Binnelanders, Villa Rosa and Robinson. Importantly, the platform will have new content within 24 hours of it airing in South Africa.
So making a Roku app available for overseas customers makes more sense than anything irrespective of the device's status in SA.

meh, big deal. showmax not doing so well then on their own then, bail out from big bro.

it would impress me more if it was Netflix

Wondering if EasyView plus ShowMax is not a bad deal "R 99 plus R 29 per month" ?

Sort of makes up for not on Premium and can't find any value in "Compact" or "Extra" ......
