Been seeing a lot of advertising at the moment on DStv about their high-def channels, which is all very well, but I seem to remember having read a number of complaints here by forum members about the fact that the sound and video didn't match? Have they improved on this or are there still problems?

On the new HD PVR there is a lip sync setting which you can set to your preference.

My DSTV SD channels (MM1,MM2,MNet Action etc) move a little bit quicker than usual.. kinda like the video is playing at 1.25x faster. Its oddly weird, anyone else having this issue?

I have the old 4 tuner UEC HDPVR and yes there are lip synch issues which can get very irritating.

Picture is great though.

Action had a huge sound echo last night, but seems okay now.

That setting has been there since the beginning. Doesn't do squat.

the setting is there to delay the audio should the audio be ahead of the video. the current lip-sync issue relates to the audio being delayed already hence the setting will not help.

visit the DSTV forums for more info.

I am a trialist and have received the test firmware version which resolved this issue on my 4-Tune HD PVR. I am sure DSTV will release it to all subscribers very soon.

So as with most things, it sounds like a case of rather sitting back and waiting until they finally get their act together before spending money. Lovely to have a high def pic, but if you're constanbtly looking at the lips moving with no sound, you (or I would) just get highly irritated and end up hating the experience.

yes agreed. after many complaints on their forum it seems it has helped.

They do seem quite slow on the uptake - it's like the widescreen issue on channels like Action. A number of us were irritated by the screens either automatically jumping from one size to the other, or having to reset the setting manually - about two weeks later DStv started broadcasting those 'informercials' telling you how to set it all up properly.

How do you become a trialist?

The software ryanwyk is referring to is available to anyone at the moment who requests it. Its only for the Pace 4 tuner though

The lip sync issue is only via HDMI audio, so if you use optical, co-axial or RCA as your audio output then its not a problem

I've had audio delayed behind the picture when using the coaxial out on Dolby Digital soundtracks. I have the UEC 4 tuner HD-PVR.

I have the UEC 4 tuner and have lip sync...

And I discovered last night that if the soundtrack isn't surround, its playing another channels sound on the back speakers very softly.

Don't know where DSTV gets their developers.

I've got the Pace 2 tuner PVR and I've also got the lip sync issue. Man, it is very frustrating indeed. I just hope they send out a fix soon.

Glad I ran across this thread - I kept thinking there was something wrong with my Home Theatre

Skipping channels will show you it's not just the HD channels. Gave up trying to watch a film on etv the other night because the lip sync was so bad. It's what motivated me to post this question after seeing the HD adverts - my feeling is that if they cannot even get the lip sync right on the SD channels, why the heck would I spend money on an HD decoder to get the same poor service?

I've found the lip sync varies. Sometimes it's ok, other times really bad. Yesterday I couldn't watch ANY channels on ANY of the outputs on my HD-PVR :(
Luckily I could still use the 1110 connected on Xtraview

Moderator, could we get something about lip-sync on the FAQ's?

Is the lip-sync setting only for people with external amps? How do they use this setting?

For the majority of people using only HDMI:-
Is it true that there is a problem with the HDMI audio sync? When will this be fixed? Why is it worse some days than others? If I am getting sync delays with the PVR 2P, does that mean everybody else with the 2p is as well?
