My bonus that I love with the PVR is the Dstv On Demand. where the main series programs off of Mnet and some from other channels are put on for the week for you to watch whenever (plus all the sport highlights). and the bonus NO ADVERTS!!!!!!

I hardly watch anything in real time anymore (except my Arsenal games and some movies)

that does sound good. stop making it sound so attractive going to have to cancel my adsl if i want hd tv...

Hey everyone, thanx for the replies, what pisses me off is that the cc agent was adamant that I had to pay for the xtra view and pvr service seperately, I'll be attempting to call them this morning.

They always screw up that initial bill and then you have to phone them and demand a refund. Otherwise they'll continue to screw if you don't query. When I installed xtraview I specifically told them there should be no extra R65 but they still managed to charge me an extra 65. So I phone and got refunded.

Thanx, Will be calling them this morning lets just hope that I don't have to hold the same amount of time for the accounts dept.

Nope, no decoder insurance.

No, PVR function attracts R65, but it also means you can hook up xtraview for no other additional charge. If you already had PVR, you can activate xtraview for "free". But MC have a nasty habit of forgetting this and slapping on an extra R65 for xtraview when they shouldn't

yep! just got a prompt reply on twitter confirming this. if i tell the wife this she is going to frog march me down to game and make me buy that hd pvr... but then i can watch stuff in "HD"!!!

Its worth it bra, even if its just for the Recording capability.

So I eventually get through to DSTV yesterday, after waiting about 10 Minutes on the line AND choosing Account Query. The agent then asks what he can help me with, and because its an 'XtraView' issue he can't help me. Before he transfers me I told him not to, because I've just been holding forever, and if he can transfer me to a person directly instead of the 'Queue'. He says he understands and WILL transfer me directly. This idiot then transfers me straight into the d@mn queue - 'You are number 65 in the queue'

So this morning get through quickly, amazingly, and what I found I think is a IMPORTANT FYI for everyone.
What was explained to me was that going forward I will indeed pay the Norm ie. Base + R65 = R655 per month.
What I was charged for, the additional R73, was because 'I activated in the MIDDLE OF THE MONTH' and this was a pro-rata for the last few days EVEN THOUGH I'm already paying the R65 extra.
He explained to me that even though you only pay for one feature and get both on the normal month to month basis, IF you activate in the middle of the month you will be charged pro-rata for BOTH.
I think this is sneaky and a bit below the belt especially if its not made clear, if there is linkage to this explaination on the DSTV site, please feel free to direct me there cause I can't find it.

Anyway long story short - Wait till the first of the Month to activate. Hope this helps someone out there.

Telkom has also activated this middle of the month nonsense. I think it just allows them to screw us more. The consumer really faces an uphill battle in this country. They coming up with new ways to screw us over!

No, Only if you activate you're xtraview setup mid month will it be R590(base) + R65(PVR) + Rx(prorata of xtraView use).
So if you wait and activate it on the 1ST of the month then its ONLY R590+R65 ie. nothing changes - BUT ONLY if you activate on the 1st.
