DSTV HD Tuner1 issues in Cape Town

1st post, so excuse or flame me - either way "Howdy y'all". This spot seems like a great place to get random advice on all issues....


So the HD sport channels at our place have been getting poor signal recently. Sometimes regular bursts around a second apart of distortion.

Checked the Tuner 2 (edit - I think I should have said Tuner 1) status, and it drops from 98% to 0% and back every second or so. This can last for a minute or 30 minutes. Then back to normal.

IOW HD sport becomes impossible to watch - nice one during the Winter Olympics, Graeme Smith's amazing 14 run innings, and now the Stormers wonderful 10-0 start to the season

So really, this could be due to bad weather as the lords of DSTV keep warning us, but there's no bad weather here. Could be a bad installation, but its been fine for ages. Wondering if this is the only HD DSTV installation in CT recently getting poor signal.


Tried to register on the DSTV forums, but they insist I am a spammer go figure...

What's the signal on tuner 1? Tuner 1 is your live picture, tuner 2 is for recording
Whats the signal on 211 & 212?

What's the signal on tuner 1?

Coulda sworn it was Tuner 2 giving the problems, but now confirmed it is Tuner 1.

211 is pretty poor (although that's almost ok since our team is being pwned by the Lions 28-10).

Strangely been watching on 201 which is fine.

Hows your channel 104 and 106.
I get that blocky artefact image very often, but usually limited to those to channels.
Spoke to a guy 'in the know' some time back.
Hey was saying my dish is too small and I should get a bigger one.
Haven't done anything about it though.

Thx ColonelJAck. Haven't had much problem since Saturday, and have not noticed an issue on 104 / 106 before.

Will keep an eye out and do a channel scan next time I see the issue arising to see what other channels it affects.
