That's the one that Gavin guy played in? Was an awesome series. But most of the people on here are not old enough to remember it :p

10. The Game (1990)

If you remember one scene from rugby drama The Game, it’s probably where Charlie kills his friend Joe with a dangerous tackle. The Game was an intriguing and heart-wrenching story about friendship, aspiration and, of course, rugby. Besides being hugely popular (especially among women), The Game has an important place in SA television history: It was one of the first “white” series to have a coloured main character (Zane Meas as Mackey), and it gave us our first glimpse of Oscar-winning director Gavin Hood, in his role as reluctant rugby star Charlie Bates.

It doesn't broadcast the good stuff like Moomin, Pokkel and Heidi anymore. Really it seems to me the more MC tries to pack on the less value there is. The rebranding of Mnet Zone to City saved them 6 hours of viewing time between 00:00 and 06:00. This was the time where they usually broadcast reruns of their shows so we could catch up on them. See no reason why they can't still do that as I've missed some stuff. Since this month however they are getting over R200 less in return for their greed of wanting more.

Same here - moved from premium to family and after the first two weekends I can say "there is life after DSTV"

Wait what? The SABC had a Zulu & Sotho series running on tv in the 80's? I thought it was the exclusive mouthpiece of the NAT government, being used to take away the dignity of the black man in an imperialistic fashion?
 
what is DSTV going to do when Netflix finally comes here in SA, legally? the only reason in my opinion that millions of SA users have not yet left them is
a. Netflix / Hulu is not entirely legal using it from here
b. if you not technical it's a hassle to setup
c. Some die hard sports fans refuse to leave DSTV until they have a decent sports replacement
Feel sorry for them.
I seriously don't think bringing back this old cr@p is going to keep existing customers,let alone attract any NEW ones?

What VALUE are the subscribers getting out of their hard earned money being paid to DSTV?

Netflix isn't much of a threat to them imho. Most people don't want to go through the hassle of media boxes and everything. Also not a very good option with our slow and unreliable speeds. It's fibre and triple play services that will pose the biggest competition but that's still 3 years or so off in terms of becoming widespread.

Not really....
we have a 2mb uncapped line - perfect for Netflix, never had any problems yet
Quality is set to Standard which is more than enough on our LCD HD ready TV
We don't need to use Media Boxes or anything like that, we run it through our browser (LCD is connected as a monitor to our Laptop)
We been without DSTV for 2yrs running and cannot tell you we have missed a single thing - so R600 x 24 months? You do the math, much rather put with a "entry" level ADSL line than spend R7k a year on Reruns and lame Adverts

Same as married couples who hate each other and are both doing the dirty with other people always say .... we are staying together for the kids. :p
