10. The Game (1990)
If you remember one scene from rugby drama The Game, it’s probably where Charlie kills his friend Joe with a dangerous tackle. The Game was an intriguing and heart-wrenching story about friendship, aspiration and, of course, rugby. Besides being hugely popular (especially among women), The Game has an important place in SA television history: It was one of the first “white” series to have a coloured main character (Zane Meas as Mackey), and it gave us our first glimpse of Oscar-winning director Gavin Hood, in his role as reluctant rugby star Charlie Bates.
