They should have called it Omusic if it was directly linked to Channel O. I guess that's not what they intended.

He is right. People will pirate if the price is too high. The price should strike a balance between value and ease of access.

Look at the Steam platform. It made it cheaper / easier to get games at an affordable price. I even purchased games I stopped playing ages ago.

It will always be expensive for some, no matter what price is attached to it.

Even with Steam, games are still pirated.

What I find more acceptable is that if you pirate something and you enjoy it, at least buy it. You're not limited in terms of where to buy it - it's not like there are no choices.

Exactly this.

I pirate loads of stuff BUT if I like it I will buy it as soon as I am able too.

People will always pirate, but at least a good price talks to one's concious! :-) I like that some games that are very pirated games are offered for free nowadays and then you get to choose how much it's worth to you and pay that price. Don't want to go too off topic here, but piracy is a very interesting thing. I've got friends that absolutely buy ALL their games and won't copy any pirated game, but they have no scruples about pirating movies / series / music. Weird, but true.
 
The price is a lil bit too high....

The conditions are somewhat restrictive.
The site is rubbish in my opinion, where are the genre's etc etc... and looking at a specific album it still shows the "bestsellers" on the right hand side... just a stupid design decision if there ever was one.
 
My observations (not that it's worth anything :0):

  1. At the risk of sounding like an echo in this thread, the tracks and albums I looked for were overpriced. The are definitely not competitive. So I get the feeling DSTV is trying flog this on the back of their name/brand? Quite a few of those albums can be bought online through local sites at better rates... and then you have the disc to rip or whatever.
  2. There should have been a greater correlation between price and going rate for the music. Certainly the older stuff at R9.99 is exorbitant. Musica often retail older music for less than R60 for the album. So a going price of R5 to R6 would have been closer to an acceptable price, especially considering their is no packaging involved and precious little admin to hike their costs. I would think it's mostly all automated anyway?
  3. The name, "oMusic", is way too close to their O-Channel and many (like me) would be put off if that is not your genre of music.
  4. I found most of the artists I was looking for, including "The Psychedelic Furs" :D

So maybe this will fly with some, but for me it gets a 5 out of 10.

Egzakkery - that's the first thing I thought when I saw the headline: "Oh God, please, not more Rap C r a p and groin-snatching music..."
 
So who is their target market, because they must have done their market research to justify launching it.

You said the song costs RXX but when I saw my bill it was higher, why is that?

The cost of the song covers the cost of content, your internet service provider or network provider (such as Telkom etc) also charges a “data cost” for the sending of the file. This cost varies per ISP or network.
