So I was answering some surveys and this questions popped up. Screenshot_20181029-090820.pngScreenshot_20181029-090829.pngScreenshot_20181029-090917.pngScreenshot_20181029-090934.png

Either DSTV is planning on changing their packages or there's a new player coming next year.

I literally only watch 2 sports currently, so I would require 2 sports channels at most.

I would probably find no value whatsoever from their other programming as I don't ever watch anything else that they offer that I can't find on Netflix.

Either way, there is still no value for money in those packages.. pretty much the same cost as DStv currently..

Mostly likely the sport channels you want to watch will be Package 3. The same as the current structure. They must tell us which channels are included.

People should not think they can choose which channels they want to include in each package.....

DSTV makes more money from the lower income groups. Just drive to the loksheen and look at the number of satelite dishes. DSTV Access is fine for 90% of the residents. All big games get watched at the tavern or at the friends who can afford Compact.

Due to high density and low cost housing there are dozens of times more households per square km than in our areas. Its all about economies of scale.

Package 3 is all sport channels, though. I don't want all sport, just 2. If that doesn't become an option, I'll just keep making other plans as I always have. I have no intent of paying 1k a month just for that. I would rather go without it.

Uhm… DSTV is not the only satellite TV broadcasting service in SA. Openview.

If you read any previous articles regarding dwindling Premium subscribers you would see how heavily the Premium subscribers subsidise the lower packages. DSTV makes a lot of money off Access but they make a shed load more from Premium subscribers.

This equates to a loss of 41,000 DStv Premium subscribers in one year.
...
This loss of high-end subscribers also drove down the average revenue per user (ARPU) from R353 per month to R344 per month.

13.5 million subscribers in total @ R9 = R121 million
41000 premium subscribers affects 13.5 million subscribers by R121 million per month or nearly R1.5 Billion per year.

Big money!!!!

What a stupid survey. Literally no details on the content.

Has anyone tried Openview? Opinions? In the UK I use Freeview, which meets my needs. Not much football - mostly Match of the Day - but that is OK for me.

No, but I have seen people buy the Openview appliance at Pep. They have access to Kwese Free Sports,

https://kwese.com/channel/kwese-free-sports

and obvious channels like SABC, e-channels and some other minor channels.

I would prefer to have individual channels priced, and pick my own. DSTV has hundreds of channels, but only around a dozen interest me. Price would be a major consideration of course.
That would actually be way more expensive than what people are currently paying. If that was an option, everyone would choose the good channels and that will be a problem for MULTICHOICE.

DsTV is an aging dinosaur that needs putting out of its misery

Multichoice exists to solve such problems, not to foist unwanted programmes on the customer. Less should cost less!
