DSTV premium and Showmax trickery

Can someone tell me whether DSTV is now charging Premium subscribers an additional R99 for Showmax?

I recently linked my premium account to Showmax with no charge being incurred.

This week I got an SMS saying: "Thank you for your DSTV payment. Unfortunately the amount wasn't enough so please pay an additional R99 to continue viewing."

I paid it and the following day I got an SMS saying: "R99 has been added to your DSTV account for Showmax. Please remember to add this amount when making payment. To check the full amount to pay, dial ..."


If Showmax is now an added cost, I don't want to pay it. I have been tricked into paying the amount because I thought that my normal service would be disrupted because of the way the text was phrased.

Can anyone comment or clarify?
 
Are you sure it was DSTV, not a fraudulent SMS
 
They gave my account number and acknowledged the payment. Is there a DSTV spokesperson able to comment here?

No, none here. But they have a forum where you can get help midweek or you could do something revolutionary like picking up a phone and calling their call centre.
 
If I'm not mistaken the fine print of the free Showmax for Premium subscribers stated that it would be free for a certain period and thereafter you need to pay.

The DStv Payment facility will allow a Showmax subscriber, who is also a DStv Premium subscriber, to add Showmax to their DStv account. In doing so, the subscriber will get Showmax included in their DStv Premium subscription. This offer terminates 31 March 2019, after which the prevailing monthly rate for Showmax will prevail.

It is nothing less than false representation. All adverts quote Dstv Premium at R809.00 per month. No mention is mafe of they msterious undefined "Access Fee". With some petition support I would enjoy arguing the issue with help from the Ombudsman who had proved useful on my previous scraps with these arse holes.
