You could always meet up with your mates at a local pub. At least then it helps to break the couch potato problem...

Used to do that when i was sub-letting... me and the other tenant shared our bill.
As soon as I moved to my new place I canned my DStv and got ADSL.
R300 for line rental + 50GB gets me all I need now, and makes me more conscious of what I watch.
The only thing I miss about DStv is 'How its Made', but that's more cos I'm too lazy to find a torrent!

I'm with you, but for that you need a nice fat expensive Afrihost Business account. Nothing else seems to work decently. Shaping and throttling all around (Mweb, Afrihost Home, Webafrica).
 
I'm just waiting for the only company I hate more than multichoice, Telkom, to finish installing the MSAN in my area. Then I'll finally be able to get a decent line speed. That'll be the end of my DSTV subscription as I'll stream all the sport I want to watch (which is currently the only reason I have dstv), i'll get Netflix, Hulu Plus, Unotelly, etc, and i'll pocket all the change. Oh, and the moment I find a viable alternative to telkom, i'll leave them too (but this probably wont happen in the foreseeable future).

They only get my money because they both hold a monopoly. The moment they lose that privilege, they're both dead to me.
 
Vote with your feet, thats the biggest thing to get people to do. Same with the banks, people could pay R20 in bank charges but are stupid enough to signup for the all inclusive R99 when it serves no real added benefits. Problem in SA is the consumer not the companies.
 
My guess is that most on these forums have the DSTV PVR decoder and therefore pay the additional R70 (or whatever) a month.

IMHO the price tables should show both prices.
 
Whatever happened to the public broadcaster getting additional channels? I have no b@lls to leave mono:cry:

Each visit to the pub for a sports event ends up costing R200 minimum... very quickly gets more expensive than DSTV.
