DStv price increase explained

MultiChoice has increased the prices of some of its pay-TV subscription services, explaining that it's part of the annual price review to accomodate the costs of running them.

Even though they have economies of scale and it barely costs anything to add a new subscriber.

This article is just like their package offering. A repeat. They've said this last year and the year before when they bent us over and raped us.

Does multichoice still take new mnet only subscribers?
Can I get only mnet using DSTV decoder set up?

Hi all,

We need more money for our holiday houses in Plett, cos it's not gonna build itself. LOL

Therefor we have decided to increase the DSTv monthly subscriptions.

Thank you,

Dstv management

If DSTV screws you just remember: you gave full consent. You go to them and give yourself over to be screwed. It does not work the other way 'round. So either pay them, or leave them. I left them years ago. Yes, one can live without them. I have no TV in my house. Best thing we as a family ever agreed upon to do. Try it. And by doing so you will help bring DSTV down.

That's about a 10% increase, not "rape" like some would say, but still more than my usual 6% sallary increase can handle.
I agree, their prices is a steep, that's why I have the Select option and even there it's only the kid that watch Nickelodeon.

Cancelling my DSTV subscription end of the month. I've already subscribed to Netflix. The sport will sorely be missed, but I'll saving R700, which is more important. Interestingly enough though is, that I see I lot of guys on the forum now looking for alternatives, which is good, as I don't see why we should be held ransom to their price increases on a yearly basis.

Wish we could choose channels we want to watch since I only use like 10 of the channels on DSTV.

Mnet, BBC Channels, Discovery, Comedy, Animal Planet, History, National Geographic and the News Channels plus Sports.

So it's not for the additional expenses incurred for setting up that anti-piracy task team ..

Bring them down? Really? unlikely.

It's a luxury service, which you really do know upfront what you're getting into.
Why the whinging? They're a good company (meaning well run and profitable), and they're doing what any other company would do in the face of zero credible competition and outdated legislation which works in their favour

Because the hog all the rights to the good content.

wheres the explaination? starting to wonder if compact is even worth it.

The sport will sorely be missed, ...

Sport is overrated. They will do the same again and again and again ... 2013 ... 2014 ... 2015 ... until forever. Who the heck cares any more who wins the 2013 SupeRugby competition? I can't even remember who won it last year and the year before that.

It's like the mini-series' ... always push you to the next episode/series ... never a final outcome. So we - the suckers - are drawn into this forever storyline with no ending.

As I said yesterday ... we are kept busy with rubbish to take our minds/attention away from those running our lives. All tittytainment (google it).

I'can't believe each year goes by so quickly and we run the same comments each year - why the increase, resist the increase, channel selection, interest in sport ...

It does paint a sad picture: Multichoice managing to cut costs each year due to economies of scale and technology, but still passing on outlandish increases due to their monopoly - especially on sport.

I would add that I now don't have SABC as an option as I've lost faith in their political objectivity or interest in true investigative journalism.

What does that leave - eTV

Without reading the article, I'm sure that the excuse is it's due to "operating costs", as it was for every other increase. Good to see these thugs coming under such scrutiny lately.
