DStv prices and inflation: 2000-2014

Pffftt cancelled DSTV in December 2013 and going strong... very expensive for the amount of junk, adverts and then repeated junk with more of the same adverts. I bet if I had to watch it today there would still be the same repeats that I was seeing last year.

DSTV will die a slow death once more IP solutions are available. It's a pity Vidi isn't at the level of Hulu or Netflix atm

Probably just have SuperSport then. No more multichoice/dstv/carte blanche (Derek Watts will be exclusively doing hair loss treatment ads).
Just offer me the sports alone and I'd drop the rest of the rubbish in a heartbeat. No thinking required.

I've been DSTV free for 18+ months now. Recently I've been on the road quite a bit and have come to appreciate just how lucky I've been without it. At home I get to watch what I want, when I want.

Watching sport on TV doesn't interest me - if I want to see a match I just go to it.

on a more serious note. surely as dstv's subscriber base increases, and technology gets cheaper, that the price for dstv would stabilize or even come down??

The surround sound is really nice and if you have a decent AV system, it really makes you feel you are there.

Just as I thought Screw that... I can make my own stale hotdogs and fairly sure I can get some crappy beer at my local liquor store!

If I wanted to watch sport, I would go the brother or even pub to watch.

How do I interpret the graph? They are still very profitable therefore I am assume the initial prices from 2000 was already creaming the customer and they kept adjusting that in line with inflation ... still creaming the customer. Still missing data is the number of premium and otherwise subscriptions over the years.

Surely subscriptions have increased over the years and after accounting for the added costs and extravagant spending on customer service centres, they have not been passing on the savings to the customer with increased subscription volumes.

I'd gladly take the reverse. No point subsidizing TV rights for sports for those who don't care about sport.
