DStv Pricing in 2002?

If you guys do intend to question them on the R300 increase in 10 years, please don't sit back idly when they spew forth the usual "more channels and value" crap. The trend overseas is to offer more channels at lower prices.

Multichoice letter dated 2002-02-25. (I still have the letter in the DSTV file )

Monthly subscription will increase by 9% to R349.00 per month on 1st April 2002.

Hope that helps

Big company like them will have a Data Wharehouse somewhere. They don't know what the 2002 pricing was, but I bet you they will know people who still owes them money from 2002

LOL :D you just nailed it with this one,
you gotta love guys with Memory

Unbelievable!!!

While I'm not a fan of MC's pricing at all, the price increases have been very reasonable over the last 10 years.

2002: R 349 12.35% (avg pa 1998-2002)
2003: R 360 3.15%
2004: R 379 5.28%
2005: R 396.72 4.68%
2006: R 416.72 5.04%
2007: R 437.62 5.02%
2008: R 468.99 7.17%

11% on small amount is less than 5.55% on bigger amount. So percentage wise it may look better, but not Rand wise.

Sorry, (I know its not a big difference) I try to be positive on these matters, but can't seem to win.

Absolute increases are pretty meaningless in financial terms due to inflation, hence the convention to use percentages instead as they give a more accurate reflection of the changes. If you account for inflation the R31 increase in 2012 is equivalent (in purchasing power terms) to R13,35 in 1997, based on CPI. The current equivalent of R20 in 1997 would be R46.44.
