We first started with only one LNB cable and never had problems with it and then asked a multichoice accredited installer to add another LNB cable and he suggested using a splitter so we can use it in both rooms (we were moving our tv room to another room)

Few days afterwards the new lnb cable started losing signal and had a blocky picture plus sound loss so we thought it was the weather until I tried it on the old cable which worked 90% better with only signal loss when changing channels yet no blocky picture or sound loss and the signal quality is better overall in the settings being 90+ opposed to 70+ on the other cable.

We have a huge tree outside but why would it affect one LNB cable way more than the other when they both come from the same dish (The guy we called today said it was the tree and not the cabling even though he never checked the cabling so paid R300 for just checking the signal which he said was fine from the dish).

We used the same company today as when we installed the other cable.

I can see the tree branch affecting one thing but not like that, since we had the signal loss problem during bad weather yet everything else was fine with signal quality etc. when we had the problem few years back.

if he used a splitter it would have nothing to do with the dish. if he installed a dual lnb then it could be related to a problem at the dish. a splitter just takes the cable and splits it into two. nothing else.

so the output from the splitter should be identical unless he messed up the connection of the one wire.

so could be an installation problem coupled with the tree branch

Had channel 120 on the working LNB cable for like 3 hours now with no problems, still yet to get it to work properly on the other one.

Tried the broken one again and still blocky and jumpy sound even though it says now Signal Strength 81% and 100% signal quality

TLC, BBC L, BBC K, iTV (347) NGwld, Animal Planet, DISC World, ENews, TBN, BBC C, Nickolodeon, ESPN C, SS3 not working on the new one yet works fine on the old lnb cable. (Ones in bold were working before they fiddled with the Dish/LNB today)

If he installed a new tiwn lnb he could not have mounted it properly and might have moved slightly out hence your problems, or the twin LNB he installed is a dud and the one port is F-uped. or he didnt intall a twin lnb and just installed a spliter and its the route of your problesm.

If you can post pics of dish and LNB as well as this spliter he put in maybe we can advise whats hapening.

why did you need to split the LNB cable for one decoder, Or do you have two decoders?

If you have two decoders running off of one LNB that has just been split and not actually being fed by a twin LNB, you will have problems on certain channels with the second signal. It has something to do with the different channels on vertical and horizontal polarities.

either you need a twin LNB on the dish to run two seperate LNB cables off of if you have two decoders or you just need to split the coaxial cable just before it goes into your tv and run that through to the other room.

I will get pictures of the Dish and LNB but the splitter is in the roof so will be hard to take a picture of it

Was so we can use the TV in the other room when we have visitors

Thanks least I know it is definitely the splitter at fault

ah the spliter is just for the secondary tv's so i doubt it has anything to do with the problem or will afect the LNB as long as it only conected to the rf out of decoder .

I suggest a powered HDMI splitter.

umm ya right has nothing t do with the OP's problem also of no use currently as OP mention he (or she? ) only has a single SD decoder and not and HDPVr

HD PVR? I assume...

Signal issues means your problem is between the dish and the decoder... Alignment, LNB, cable or decoder tuner.

The splitter is not the problem. This is used to split the RF output signal to multiple screens. If your picture was snowy, or your TVlinks didn't work, then the splitter might have been faulty.

Also, was this company using proper instrumentation to check the signal? They should fix this. It sounds like they might be incompetent ...

they plugged something into the plug inside by the door to the dish to apparently check the signal and he shocked himself somehow and he was swearing in afrikaans lol :D

He didn't even check the other lnb cable, I had to force them to check both of them instead of only the one even though we told them we had two and they wouldn't check the cabling in the roof saying it will cost way more to check.

Quantums incompetent installer theory is sound more plausible now

So do I pay R300 more for another installer or try them again (theres only two installers here that I know of in PMB)

posst the pics lets see what you got first, and if its crap installation and they multichoice certified, maybe you have to contact multichoice and advised you used these guys and they already charged twice and haven’t fixed the problem - maybe go the hello peter route

Thanks I will get pictures of the stuff

I phoned the company to complain about the past installers and they said they going to send someone today to fix it properly hopefully, so what do I tell them to do?
